Skin Cancer Claims the Life of Kaye Cowher, Wife of Pittsburgh Steeler's Coach Bill Cowher

Kaye Young met Cowher in 1976, when he was a linebacker for North Carolina State, and she and her twin sister (Faye) played women's basketball. The sisters went on to lead North Carolina to their first basketball title in 1978. They also appeared in gum commercial for Wrigley's Double-mint gum.
Kaye went on to play for the New York Stars and New Jersey Gems and was in the Women's Professional Basketball League until 1981.
By 1981 Kaye and Bill they were married. He confirmed her death to the media, and went on to call her the rock and foundation of their family.
The family moved to Raleigh after he retired in 2007. They watched their daughter's complete high school and move on to follow in their mother's footsteps, playing Division I college basketball. Daughters: Lauren and Meagan played at Princeton, and Lindsay currently plays for Wofford.
What causes skin cancer :
Unprotected skin is easily damaged by the sun's ultraviolet rays, and it can happen in as little as 15 minutes of unprotected exposure. The damage to your skin can take up to 12 hours to appear after the full effect of sun exposure.
Types of Cancer :
The most common form of cancer in the United States is skin cancer. The two types most common are basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas - both are curable. However, melanoma, the third most common is much more dangerous.
Protecting yourself :
Seek shade at the hottest times of day (10-4), wear sunscreen (15 SPF or more), wear wrap around sunglasses as close to 100% of UVA and UVB, hats, and cover ups that allow you to cover your skin. And avoid tanning beds and heating lamps.
