The first thing that you need to do is to identify your skin type. The basic skin types are dry, oily, normal, sensitive and combination (two or more of the basic skin types). You may already know your skin type just by looking in the mirror. But if you are unsure, then you can speak with a beauty expert at a spa or salon, or talk to an Avon or Mary Kay representative. You can also consult family members and friends for their advice and feedback.
Be sure to purchase products specifically for your skin type. Do some research on the Internet and visit local stores to learn about the various skin care products on the market. There are a variety of skin care products such as soaps, cleansers, moisturizes, lotions and creams.
Below is a helpful list of skin care tips for you to follow.
Wash your skin daily (this includes washing your face and taking a bath/shower)- Do not wash your skin too often (no more than twice a day) because too much water can dry your skin and strip the oil and moisture from it. Be sure to use warm water instead of hot or cold water and try to take "short" baths/showers.
Follow a healthy diet plan and exercise regularly- Your diet should consist of plenty of fruits and vegetables, at least six to eight glasses of water and nutritional foods. Eating healthy and exercising will keep your skin looking great.
Wear sunblock everyday to avoid exposing yourself to excessive sun rays- The sunblock cream or lotion should have a minimum SPF of 15. Also, avoid going out in the sun during the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. because the sun's rays are usually stronger during these hours. In addition, always wear appropriate clothing to protect your skin from the sun.
Get plenty of sleep- Lack of sleep can create wrinkles on your face and bags under your eyes. Most people need around 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night, but some people may require slightly more or less sleep.
Never sleep with makeup on your face- Wash all of the makeup from your face before you go to sleep. Sleeping in your makeup can clog your pores and can create blackheads, pimples or other blemishes on your face.
Wear sunglasses when necessary- Not only does sunglasses protect your eyes, but they also protect the skin around them.
Keep your makeup brushes and applicators clean- Be sure to clean all of your makeup utensils and purchase new brushes/applicators when needed (bacteria and dirt can accumulate on brushes and applicators).
See a doctor if you notice any changes in your skin- You should immediately visit your doctor if you notice an unusual rash, itch, skin growth or problems with your pigmentation.
It's not very difficult to take good care of your skin. It just takes a little time and practice. Always remember that your skin is important too!
