Psoriasis is often thought of as just a skin disorder, unsightly but no big deal. Well you couldn't be more wrong. It canactually be the precursor to some serious medical conditions.

Psoriasis is often thought of as just a skin disorder, unsightly but no big deal. Well you couldn't be more wrong. It can actually be the precursor to some serious medical conditions.

The American college of Cardiology suggests from the results of a recent study that people with psoriasis are more likely to have heart attacks and strokes than people without psoriasis. Not only are they more likely to have a stroke or heart attack but they are 53% more likely to die than people without psoriasis.

It is strongly recommended that people with psoriasis not only seek treatment for the skin disorder but they should definitely be screened for heart disease and heart disease risk factors and continued monitoring for any development of this.

Psoriasis is also associated with an increased risk of cancer. Such as skin cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. People with Psoriasis have a 56% higher risk of cancer than people without.

There are other medical conditions associated with psoriasis as well. Such as obesity, crohn's disease, diabetes, depression, sexual dysfunction, arthritis, and emphysema. These patients tend to drink and smoke a lot as well. Which of course, is detrimental to these other mentioned complications such as heart attack and stroke and emphysema.

The bottom line is that anyone with psoriasis should have a complete physical looking for signs or symptoms of these other diseases as a complication to psoriasis. And have an ongoing awareness of any diseases developing later on.
