Skinit Computer Skin - Product Review

Janet Trieschman
We decided to purchase a new Apple 17-inch laptop. I already had one that lasted for more than six years. It was getting slow and not charging well. So the decision to purchase a new one was made. I knew from experience that we are hard on the computer. I started looking for some form of protection. I was looking for a neoprene type covering. I didn't find it. But, I did find skin that is somewhat a form of protection or the top surface. I purchased the skin from Skinit.

Basically, Skinit is a large customized sticker that you place on the top of your computer. The skin is priced reasonably enough that one could purchase a new one from time to time to change a laptop's look.

You begin by choosing your device. Skinit customizes the size of your skin to the device you are covering. There are other companies out there selling similar products, however many of them offer a generic size that you need to cut to fit your device.

While I purchased a skin for my laptop, skins are available for many different devices. Cell phones, laptops, MP3 players, and gaming devices to name a few. At Skinit you can choose from over 3000 different devices that you might want to personalize. Since the skin isn't permanent and it is able to be removed, you can change the look of your device as often as you desire.

Now you can explore the designs available, and there are many themes to search through so expect to spend some time looking. There are over 3000 designs to look through. While I choose an already existing design, I found the opportunity to create your own design very interesting. I could see this options great for mom's wanting to show off pictures of their kids. Companies could personalize their laptops with a corporate logo or product image. Think of the impact this would make in a customer presentation!

I purchased my design using a discount code I found online which took a few dollars off my order. The only complaint I have about my purchase is that the shipping was placed in a new format I was not familiar with. Skinit used the United Postal Service to send the skin to a relatively close location to my home in a nearby state, and then put the package into the general US mail. I was anxious to receive the skin for my new computer so the two-step process of shipping seemed bothersome.

Pros:

Good price

Lots of options

Customizable

Changeable

Easy to remove

Personalizes your device, great for identification

Cons:

While it looks good, I am not sure how much protection it is providing to my laptop.

Hubby put one on his laptop before heading to Iraq, and it made it through six months of training, a year in Iraq, and 9 months home now. I'm sure without it his computer would be a scuffed mess.

Yeah, should've read "Titles Available from Shout! Factory," but cut off . . . I was having tons of Internet problems b/c of all the rain we've been getting.

Sorry, gotta do quick comments more now. Missing my charger connector for my computer! *sigh* If it's not one thing, it's another!

Sorry for generic comments. I was hoping to comment more, but the Internet is not letting me load many sites tonight.

I never could get used to a skin on keyboard but they are great protection. Good review!
