Skinny Dipping Because Little Children Don't Need Swimsuits

Caleb Gerdes
The one down the hill,

beyond your house

cool in shade

with great pasture trees,

my silent questioners,

breeze-like.

A sun drenched life.

My younger body swam

in its shallows.

the small pond

filled partially

by the excrement

of large cows.

The place frozen in our winters.

my younger eyes watched

as parents and siblings

slid across the frozen mirror.

the place warm and alone.

In all our worlds,

we live by that pond.
