Skins Hotdogs in Upstate, SC

I grew up in Anderson County, South Carolina. Later, when I went away to college I moved to Columbia, the capitol city. One of the things I've always missed about living in the upstate is Skins hot dogs. In my opinion, there is nowhere to get a hot dog around Columbia that even remotely compares. This weekend my husband, my son, and I went to my parent's house for a visit (to let them spend time with their beloved grandson and get a little free babysitting). While we were in the area we had to stop and get a bag of Skin's hot dogs.

I was reminded of how delicious this simple food is. The hotdogs come with chili, mustard, and onions, but you can get them fixed any way you like. The buns are soft and delicious. They only cost a little over a dollar so people go in and come out with 10 or 20 dogs. If you mention Skin's to any hot dog eaters in upstate South Carolina they will immediately start to drool and think about when they're going to make their next trip by one of the little "hot dog joints."

The restaurants are all small little establishments decorated with framed autographed pictures from celebrities who have enjoyed a "Skin's dog." The chain was started in the 1940's in Anderson, SC by a man named Skin Thrasher. You can still visit the original hot dog store today located on the mill hill in Anderson. At the original location they still serve beer, and also have a two beer limit for all customers.

The menu is very simple. Hot dogs are your only option. This is a hot dog joint after all! All of the locations also offer delicious chocolate pound cake for dessert, and you can buy a bag of ships and a drink to accompany your "dogs." If you are a hot dog eater it may be worth it to make a trip to one of the Skins locations in upstate South Carolina. I can almost guarantee you'll never taste a better hot dog anywhere.
