Skip the Unpleasant Side Effects of Conventional Ulcerative Colitis Medications

Sighgu
There's plenty of alternative options to complement or take the place of conventional ulcerative colitis medication that won't produce unpleasant side effects. First of all, I drink peppermint tea everyday. Not only does it seem to perk my appetite on days that I feel that I have none, but it soothes my stomach like nothing else.

Also, I've been reading recently that it has anti-parasitic effects. Now, before you start thinking, "Parasites, no way, not me! I'm not dirty and gross! I don't live in a nasty shack! I don't drink water from contaminated rivers!" But more of us are ailed by parasites than you can possibly imagine. Just read about the liver and other organ flushes that people conduct on curezone.com! A lot of them have been able to rebalance their bodies and rid themselves of anything from chronic acne to stomach problems by getting rid of parasites. I also suspected that I had problems with them and took oregano oil (read my article "Chronic Candidiasis, Skin Problems, Fatigue: How I Healed Myself with Oregano Oil") and a whole slew of the problems which had been ailing me dissipated overnight. Of course, I still have to do fairly constant maintenance.

Another great stomach healer is aloe vera, but make sure to use this with caution. I use just a wee little amount, and I'm able to clean myself out well. However, whenever I used a full dose (2 capsules from GNC, one whole tablespoon of the liquid form), I would have awful stomach cramping and continuous loose stools, to the point that I would have to cancel school or work for the day. Usually, they don't recommend Aloe vera for people with stomach conditions, but since it can be so cleansing and healing, I myself use it, and with great results.

Now, as for herbs, chamomile is wonderful! I always get instant, mild relief. However, there are several warnings for this herb: don't use it on an ongoing basis. If you do, you could develop an allergy. I believe it's related to the ragweed family, which can cause allergic reactions in some people. Also, I really like yarrow, licorice root and flax seeds (always take flax seeds with plenty of water, they bulk up, and if you don't have enough water in you to flush them out, they could potentially clog you). I especially love licorice root, as it helps my stomach, eases any dark moods I have (it's pretty effective for depression) and is great for my skin both externally and internally. However, make sure to not use too much for a long time, as it can seriously deplete your potassium levels and lead to high blood pressure.
