Skybus: Cheap Flights / Airfare to and from Ohio

Skybus Offers No Frills, but Cheap Prices

Bronwyn Matthews
Everybody is looking for a bargain these days and looking for cheap airfare is no exception. If you are traveling out of Ohio, or to Ohio, there is an airline that you really need to get acquainted with, it's called Skybus.

Skybus is a no frills airline with super cheap airfare, based out of Columbus, Ohio. How cheap are we talking? Well, every flight on Skybus has 10 seats that are only 10 dollars (taxes not included). Now of course these go super quick so you have to check back often, even daily, to get one of these seats. Skybus is perfect if there is a city that you would like to visit and are flexible on your travel dates. Even if you can't get one of the 10 dollar seats, Skybus offers flights that are as low as 25 and 35 dollars one way and these are relatively easy to get, depending on the destination city.

Skybus is able to offer these low fares for several reasons, one is because they travel to smaller airports which keeps their cost down. The cities that Skybus flies to are the following: Boston, Chattanooga, Ft. Myers, Ft. Lauderdale, Greensboro/Winston-Salem, Hartford (Chicopee, MA), Jacksonville/Daytona Beach (St. Augustine), Kansas City, Los Angeles (Burbank), Milwaukee, New Orleans (Gulfport-Biloxi, MS), New York (Newburgh, NJ), Richmond, San Diego, San Francisco (Oakland), and Seattle/Vancouver (Bellingham, WA) and many more cities to be added soon.

The only drawback to Skybus is that you'll have to pay for the little things that most airlines already include in their price. It will cost you 5 dollars to check your bag per segment (a round-trip flight is two segments). Also, if your bag is over 50 pounds there is a 25 dollar fee, so be careful on this one. There is a 10 dollar charge to have an infant on your lap (per segment) and drinks and candy bars are 2 dollars. Other meals are served with a cost of approximately 8-10 dollars and alcoholic beverages are around 5. This is still not bad, considering that you are probably paying way less then you would on any other airline.

Other things you should know is that you can pay 10 dollars for priority boarding. This will enable you to board the aircraft first, as everyone else is seated on a first come, first serve basis. There is no flying standby on this airline and everything is handled online. This means that there is no 800 number to call, all questions, reservations, etc, are handled online only.

So in my opinion, the no frills approach and paying a little bit here and there for extras is still a great deal when you compare these prices to other airlines. You may want to consider what Columbus, Ohio has to offer if you live in one of the destination cities, or if you are an Ohioan looking for a vacation idea, this may be the way to go.

I personally cannot wait until Skybus adds other cites as I am totally addicted to traveling and even more addicted to finding a great bargain. I am so glad that I stumbled across this airline as it is definitely has the cheapest flights to and from Ohio. I wish you well on your travels.
