Skyland Resort in Virginia Offers Appalachian Beauty & Undisturbed Peace
Quiet Resort Will Suite Nature Lovers & Those Looking for a Quick Weekend Trip
Skyland Resort of Virginia is one of two lodges that are in the Shenandoah National Park. It is a relaxing, back-to-nature environment of cabin like rooms amongst pine trees and near lot of hiking trails. A two bed suite at Skyland Resort in Virginia will comfortably accommodate six who can all gather in the living room with stone fireplace to laugh and joke till the early hours of the morning. For the stay we were equipped with trail mix, marshmallows for a campfire, lots of bug repellant, sun block and of course our digital cameras.
Before setting out hiking we reviewed books that we had picked up at Skyland Resort Gift shop. These books proved to be very useful and for the price of $2.00 are definitely worth it. : "Hikes to Peaks & Vistas," "Short Hikes," and "Easy Hikes on the Appalachian National Scenic Trail." are titles you must remember if on a visit to Skyland Resort.
The first hike was White oak Canyon which is the most famous within the mountain ridge. It began quite easily, was on flat ground however as time grew on the trail twisted over wooden bridges and wide creeks. The hike down hill also proved a challenge as slippery rocks and loose footing make you keep your five senses active. The best advice that I can give anyone who plans to visit Skyland Resort is to invest in a top quality pair of hiking boots which will give support to your ankles and feet whilst gripping on the unsteady terrain.
After the first day we mainly spent the afternoon napping and spent the evening in the nearby restaurant followed by live entertainment in the Tap room. There is also the Mountain room which is aimed at casual dinning and can be for those just wishing to recoup their energy after a long day hiking.
Overall
Skyland resort in Virginia is perfect for a quiet get away that can make you forget the hustle and bustle of big cities. Before setting out hiking be sure to invest in a sturdy pair of boots, and some good guides from the gift shop. When not hiking then Skyland resort has the perfect entertainment and eating establishments that let you unwind and relax in peace.
