Skype to Go - Affordable IPEVO TRIO Phone Comes to America

Broadband Speakerphone for Home Office or Hotel

Internet based phones can be used nearly anywhere in the world for a low cost. A great alternative to mobile phones when calling from a location where broadband Internet access is available, phones that use services like Skype to connect are becoming increasingly popular. The IPEVO TRIO Skype phone, announced yesterday, is inexpensive, hand-held, and works as a speakerphone for conferences from hotels, offices, or wherever.

Just announced for the US, the phone has been in use in Taiwan and has received great reviews. The ability to use Skype for conferencing, whether flat on the table for a group or upright as a personal speakerphone makes it a very handy gadget, users quoted by the company in Taiwan say, as well as those who saw it at the 2007 Consumer Electronics show.

At around $80 US suggested retail, the TRIO doesn't have to be an alternative to a mobile phone. Each has its place, and with modern Internet phone technology, services can be linked so users are always connected. The TRIO connects via USB to a Windows PC or Mac.

Skype service is a well-known Internet telephone service and a lot more. Users can chat with Skype much as they do with other instant messaging services (IM), talk free on the Internet or place phone calls to traditional phones for a low cost. This means that most Skype users are already set up to talk with the TRIO with no telephone needed, just their computer!

IPEVO says that their experience in producing phone products yields several key benefits. First, the design of the mouthpiece helps eliminate an "echo effect" which some Skype users have encountered. The superior audio quality is a result of their experience in building telephone equipment. And ergonomically, they have paid attention to important details to make the phone usable, not just functional. Users can switch from handset mode to speakerphone "on the fly," and multitask in the style they prefer. The phone even includes a voice recorder function which will upload .WAV audio files to your computer over the USB 2.0 connection which also powers it.

Edward Lucero, Vice President & GM of IPEVO North America, said "It's design reflects a careful consideration to real-world ergonomic needs and user behaviors. So whether it is used as a conference phone or private handset, TRIO fits in perfectly with user's workspaces and work styles." The TRIO is not a WiFi-based portable phone, but a part of a PC-based office or mobile setup.

Skype phones and other Internet phone, whether WiFi based or wired, are becoming increasingly popular and home and especially with world travelers facing the confusing world of international mobile phones. Many companies such as IPEVO have a line of handsets and other phone equipment to choose from, all with the freedom and flexibility of IP-based service.
