Welcome to the Beijing's 2008 Olympics, hosted by our epicanthically challenged friends.
Or so would the football (soccer) players from Spain and Argentina have you think.
The accompanying photo shows Argentinian women football players Eva Gonzalez, Maria Potassa, Andrea Ojeda, and Fabiana Vallejos smiling shamelessly as they pull back the skin on their eyes in a crude impersonation of Chinese folks. This comes just days after several photos of several of Spain's teams are shown doing the same thing. Not much more to say here. Judge for yourself.
Aren't we finished in seeing China as a mostly dangerous and foreboding land filled with fiendish slanty-eyed characters like Rohmer's Fu Manchu and Harte's "Heathen Chinee"?
Let's write this off as youthful shenanigans and call it a day.
