Sleep Apnea

Why Sleep Disorders?
The reasons why I host a sleep disorders site.

Apnea and Pregnancy
During pregnancy, the lack of oxygen can become a real problem for both mother and unborn child. A recent British sleep study is probing the link between snoring, sleep apnea and small birth weight.

Taking Care Of Father
Once a year, in June, we celebrate Father's Day. What terms do you associate with the word "Father?" At our house it was fishing, country music, rodeos and laughter. Oh, and one more word...snoring.

Sleep Apnea and Cardiac Arrest
According to findings of a Mayo Clinic study published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine, approximately 20 million Americans suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA.) They are more likely to die suddenly of cardiac causes between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. than during the other 16 hours of the day combined.

Sleep Disorders Linked To Other Medical Problems
According to a study conducted by researchers from the Marlborough Center for Sleep Disorders in Massachusetts, half the people with sleep apnea also have ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder.) Further results indicate there is also a high percentage of people with insomnia who suffer from ADD.

Apnea Support
This is a patient-to-patient message board where people living with sleep apnea can exchange information with each other to help themselves better manage their condition. It was designed by people living with OSA and is free of any commercial interest.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea - The Basics

Sleep apnea means episodes of cessation of breathing during night time sleep that can occur as often as several hundred times in a night. Snoring is a warning that the sleeper may be a victim of sleep apnea.
