Sleep Cycle 2.0

Meghan McGillicuddy
So I am back with another recommendation for you! This application is called sleep cycle 2.0 and I find it very interesting. We know of alarm clocks and we know of sleep diaries (or something that keeps track of your sleeping habits) but someone came up with the ingenious idea of in a sense, combining the two!

This application not only wakes you up but wakes you up when you are in the phase of "light sleep". For those who do not know this is the ideal time for you to be awakened. Think about it-- don't you hate it when you are sound asleep and all of the sudden you hear a loud beeping noise?

For me, at least, this has always been something unpleasant. I like the sleep cycle program because it finds the time you should wake up based off of the time you would like to wake up. Pretty clever huh? After all, how many times have you been told something along the lines of "there's a difference between what you need and why you want"?

How does it work? When you go to bed at night you put your iPod touch/ iPhone near you. You can determine the best placement by tapping on the TEST button and it will walk you through it.

Leave it on its charger! Throughout the night it will detect how you sleep (using the acclometer built into every ipod touch/ iphone) by how much you move around. Then you set your alarm and choose what you want to wake up to.

The tones are loud enough to wake you up, but they aren't so loud and unpleasant so you wake up thinking "what on earth is that?" you can choose a variety of different sounds under the SETTINGS tab (and by tapping "choose sound"):

1. Warm Breeze
2. Forest Glade
3. Morning Mist
4. Sunrise
5. Distant Memories
6. Gynmopdèdie
7. Nightingale
8. Urban Call

* You can preview each one by tapping on it before deciding on one by pressing the blue SET button in the upper right hand corner (I have mine set to Nightingale myself).

I see another button here, what does "reset collaboration" mean? The first couple of days you have the sleep cycle 2.0, it goes into test mode to determine when the best time to wake you up.

How is it a sleep diary? It actually graphs your sleeping patterns, which is pretty neat to see! It is particularly useful to Those, who for whatever reason, need to or want to keep track of their sleeping patterns.

This application is $2.99, which is not very expensive at all. I whole heartedly recommend this application. It would be particularly useful for students, to help establish better sleeping patterns, or just anyone who wants a better night's sleep.
