In the studies of sleep disorders, Lunestra was originally designed in the treatment symptoms associated with restlessness and insomnia. Belonging to a group of medications known as "hypnotics", Lunestra metabolizes within the body, manipulating our "awake chemicals", adrenaline and noradrenaline, which are the driving force behind our ability to maintain activity througout the day. When these levels are high, we are awake, alert and unable to relax. When suffering from insomnia, it has been determined the levels of "awake" chemicals within the body may be too high. When considering a treatment of Lunestra, begin with a regimne of 10-14 days point the insomnia, sleep deprivation and restlessness should dissipate. The medication works to temporarily suspend the production of adrenaline and noradrenaline within the body.
Dosing of Lunestra tablets will vary depending on the need of the patient. However, it is recommended the first tablet be taken immediately prior to bed and only when you can devote at least 8 hours to sleep. The tablets are provided in 1, 2 and 3mg and dosing is based on your age and level of sleep deprivation. The side effects are such that you must avoid conducting any activities which require alertness following the intake of the medication.
Lunestra, in the treatment of sleep deprivation and insomnia, does not come without side effects. However, most side effects are common when using prescription sleep medications. Side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness and difficulty with coordination. Some patients may experience lingering drowsiness the following day at which point a consultation with your physician may be needed to determine if the correct dosing of Lunestra is in place. With proper dosing, the following morning you should feel refreshed and well rested without drowsiness or dizziness.
As with most medications, there are contraindications to the use of Lunestra. Patients who have taken other sleep aides or associated medications should avoid taking Lunestra for 24 hours after taking other sleep aides. Additionally, in rare cases, Lunestra may result in adverse reactions when taken with over the counter medications and may cause a patient to hallucinate or become suicidal. As a Category C drug, the impact on a fetus during pregnancy is not known. As a result, Lunestra should only be used when no other alternate form of treatment is available. Always advise your physician of all medications you are taking in addition to the possibly of pregnancy.
As with any sleep disorder, prevention is the key to maintaining good health. Managing stress with exercise and a healthy diet may provide you with enough energy exertion to lead into a good night of sleep. However, when sleep deprivation, restlessness and insomnia impact your ability to perform daily living activities, consider Lunestra. Consult your physician for more information on treatment options. For quick and speedy recovery when meeting deadlines and daily demands, Lunestra may be the beginning of sweet dreams. For information on sleep disorders, visit www.sleepfoundation.org.
