Sleep with Rollers in Your Head? the Right Rollers to Use that Won't Cause Damage to the Hair

Angel Vee
Sleeping with rollers in your head at night does save you time in the morning, but the rollers can also cause damage to your hair no matter what age you are. The reason why I said no matter what age is, because teens, seniors, middle-aged, and even kids sometimes like to wrap their hair up at night for school, work, special occasion or just every day habit.

Using rollers can help create a bouncy luscious curl, tight set, corkscrew curls, bologna curls, or help take away frizz and smooth the hair out. If you place the rollers too tight on the scalp or use regular setting curlers, not only will it be uncomfortable to sleep in, it will also break your hair off. And I'm sure you don't want to wake up with a heap of hair lying on your pillow. Now I'm not saying the first time you sleep with rollers your hair will break off, but eventually if this becomes a weekly habit then your hair will.

If you are a person who enjoys the look of a roller set, then I suggest using A Satin Coated or A Soft Spike Curler. These rollers are soft, comfortable, easy to use, will NOT create any breakage, and WILL give you an awesome healthy shiny curl. Here are a few worth checking into.

Amazon, Goody Satin Covered Rollers

These satin rollers are extremely light, easy to use, and great for all hair textures, especially those with over-processed and fragile hair. Create a tight spiral curl or go for the loose messy curl. The satin helps keep the moisture in your hair and prevents the hair from breaking.

Sally Beauty,Salon Care Satin Foam Rollers

No end papers or clips needed. These rollers are perfect for any hair type, easy to use, and most importantly comfortable to sleep in. Love the fact they can be used on dry or wet hair with or without product.

Ebay, Annie Silky Satin Rollers

These rollers are great for all hair types, but especially for heavy hair. The satin curlers are comfortable to wear and are very durable. I found these on Ebay, for under $9.00 with shipping.

The last satin roller I know of is by Hype Hair . They keep the hair from drying out, helps eliminate frizz, and great for those who desire that tight spiral curl. I know these can be found at Walgreens, but I'm sure if you check around at like CVS, Kmart, or Walmart you can also find them there.

I have twins, boy/girl, and they've both had long hair since they were babies. They're now 7 and I find soft curlers at night the best way to manage their hair. I started putting the girl's hair in curlers at night when she was about 5 and her brother soon wanted his done as well. They sleep in curlers about 4-5 times a week and it makes things soooo much easier in the mornings -- I take their curlers out, give them a finger fluff, add a headband & go. I use the Goody soft sponge curlers -- I've tried satin curlers and their hair just won't stay in them. Thanks for a terrific article!

Ah memories! My mother used to make me wear rollers at night before a special occasion or family outing. My hair is so naturally straight that if I didn't do this, the curls would be gone within an hour or so! She used those pink foam rollers with the plastic clips. They weren't that bad to sleep in since they were foam but I still hated it. LOL

Good article. I once used strips of rags to curl my hair. Soft to sleep on and did it ever curl my hair.

My hair crawls right out of the satin rollers. It's foam or nothing for me.

this is learning for me, although i never tried sleeping with rollers

I never understood how some women could wear curlers in their hair when they sleep. I tried it once-with foam rollers-and I was in pain. Good article!
