Sleep/mundane

April Fox
tomorrow is tuesday
and this is a night
just like any other
the people i love are
surrounding me, sleeping
long fingers splayed out over
skinny boy chests
and the voices that sing
off-key pop songs all day
have been quieted back into
sweet baby sleep breath
my computer is making a sound like
pink floyd
faintly coming from somewhere
i can't tell quite where
if it blows up on me
i'll be sad
the fan-hum is deafening
old photographs and i laugh at how
sneaky he is
with the lens
i am disbelief
everything
nothing is real
but i can't not believe in
this thing
this is day long laughs, giggling
grocery store hijinks
this is throwing me over his shoulder and into the next room
collapsing in laughter
(i say he's my hero
-he thinks that i'm joking-
don't tell him i'm not
he'll grow vain)
this is coloring pictures and chalk on the road
disney movies and trampoline flight
this is long nights of typing, of research, of
fuck
i can't do this
it's done

and then settling in
under screen-filtered moonlight
finding my place
between shoulder and neck
and his arm wrapped around me like
nothing can get me
the deep breaths of children asleep and the
house-sounds as life
goes to sleep.

Heroes are for Disney movies none of it is real - leave it all in the coloring books

I just love your imaginative, beautifully descriptive prose, it reminds me of a life i wish i could recapture.
