Sleepover Rover was founded by Maggie Brown, a former district sales manager for a big pet supply and boarding retail franchise, and her friend Tina, a former veterinary practice manager, according to the agency's About Us page. Neither woman felt comfortable leaving their companions in a boarding kennel, yet each also felt guilty for burdening their families and friends with the responsibility of watching their dogs whenever they went out of town.
Each woman eventually found someone who would watch her companion in their homes while she was out of town or traveling. Each woman felt comfortable leaving their companions at someone else's home with someone they knew would care for them and their dogs also seemed happy whenever they were able to visit their host families. These experiences inspired the women to create a network of host families other dog owners could leave their companions with when they traveled as well.
Sleepover Rover services are currently available in Los Angeles California, Tucson Arizona, Los Vegas Nevada, Denver Colorado, Phoenix Arizona, and San Diego California. The founders hope to continue to expand their network of services to several other major cities in the United States as time progresses.
Every pet parent (owner) must sign a contract before leaving his or her companion with a pet host (host family). This contract must be signed for both doggie day care and overnight/boarding services. The contract states that the pet parent must have his or her companion up-to-date on all required vaccinations, must tell Sleepover Rover or the pet host if one's dog is prone to chewing, scratching, or other destructive behaviors or is not house trained, must tell Sleepover Rover if one's pet has fleas, ticks, or other parasites or insects, and must inform the agency if one's dog has ever shown aggressive behaviors, such as biting, toward any other animal or person. A pet parent also agrees to provide enough food for his or her dog's typical feeding schedule while in the care of the pet host, agrees to allow the pet host to administer medications to one's companion, if applicable, agrees to mark all medications clearly and provide clear instructions on how they are to be given, if applicable, will prearrange to pay one's regular vet or will leave a credit card number and billing authorization in case of emergency or needed veterinary services while one's furry friend stays with the pet host. Additionally, a pet parent must agree to reimburse Sleepover Rover or the pet host for any cost that is not covered by either of these payment prearrangements.
The agreement also states that the pet parent will make his or her dog's medical records available through his or her regular veterinarian and gives the pet host permission to seek veterinary care for illness or injury that occurs while in the pet host's care. The pet parent must also provide an emergency contact whom can make medical decisions for the pet owner's dog provided the owner is not reachable. The pet parent must also inform the pet host if he or she does not want his or her furry friend to play with other animals, such as dogs or cats, or to play with other people. If you are interested in reading the entire agreement/contact, you may view it here.
Prices for doggie day care and sleepover services vary by location. For instance, in Denver Colorado, a small or medium dog can receive day care for $30 per day, a large dog can stay for $35 per day, and a giant dog can stay for $40 a day. If you need your furry friend to sleepover at the pet host's house, it costs $35 per night for a small or medium-sized dog, $43 a night for a large dog, and $48 per night for a large one. You can check the fees for doggie day care and sleepover services in your city by clicking on, "Fees and Services," on the top of the agency's website. Next, select your city from the drop-down menu and click the, "Go," button.
Pet hosts are screened by the agency through a phone interview. If the individual passes a phone interview, he or she will meet with a representative from Sleepover Rover in the potential host's home where he or she will take part in a second interview. Additionally, the potential host's home will be evaluated for its suitability for a dog. The agency asserts they only select individuals to become hosts whom they would feel comfortable leaving their own dogs with.
If you would like to schedule sleepover or day care services, you may do so by visiting the Sleepover Rover website or by phone. If you want to make reservations on the website, click on the, "Plan a Sleepover," tab on the top of the homepage. Next, you will create a client profile and a profile for each one of your pets. Finally, you will make a reservation for the dates in which you need care. You may also start the reservation process by calling 1-866-817-0500. After receiving your reservation information, Sleepover Rover will give you a call . After a host has been selected based upon your pet profile, your pet's needs, and reservation dates, your host will call you to set up a time where you and your dog can meet him or her at his or her home. This will give you an opportunity to ask your host any questions you may have, to get a tour of the home, and for you and your dog to get to know your host. After you meet with your host, you will have 48 hours to call and confirm your reservation. It should be noted if you do not call within 48 hours of meeting the pet host, he or she will be released for the dates you reserved to care for another pet.
If you would like to get more information about Sleepover Rover, you may visit their website or call them at: 1-866-817-0500. The next time you want or need to travel, perhaps Sleepover Rover will be a good alternative to boarding for you and your dog.
