Sleepy Mountain Memory Foam Mattress: Review
Component Memory Foam Mattress Offers Comfort Without Sticker Shock
I became interested in a memory foam mattress when I began to suffer back pain from traditional inner springs. The Sleepy Mountain Component Mattress system was available from the company website for $630, almost half price from a comparable name brand mattress.
What is a component mattress? A component mattress is made up of three separate layers that are shipped separately and can be stacked to make your bed more customized. The Sleepy Mountain memory foam mattress comes with one firm foam layer, one medium firm layer and one memory foam layer. The memory foam layer goes on top, while the bottom two layers are placed according to your desired firmness.
After doing comparison shopping, I discovered that Sleepy Mountain Mattress offered the same products that were feature on their website through eBay for much less. I ordered the 8 Inch Full Size Memory Foam Mattress for $87.40 plus around $90 for shipping.
The memory foam mattress shipped in three separate boxes and arrived in just over a week. They were securely packed and heavily shrink wrapped, to the point that it was difficult to remove the layers from their plastic packaging. When I did finally get the memory foam mattress layers out of the wrapping, there was a definite chemical odor but it wasn't overwhelming. If you are sensitive to chemicals you should have your windows open before your unwrap your mattress layers. The odor goes away after a day or two of airing the memory foam mattress out.
Once I had the layers out of their boxes, they were lightweight and easy to maneuver into place. I did have a slight problem getting the layers exactly lines up, but it was just a slight delay. The layers come with a mattress cover that is designed to hold the layers in place. It went on easily and gave the layers a nice, complete memory foam mattress look.
The memory foam layer, like most memory foam mattresses, felt a little stiff and firm when I first stretched out on it, but it warmed up to my body temperature quickly and was extremely comfortable. The foam springs back quickly. Most importantly, it had eliminated my back pain and I wake up much more refreshed.
The only problem with the component mattress system is that the memory foam layer shifts and must be realigned weekly. It is a small price to pay for such a comfortable memory foam mattress at such a cheap price.

The "oder" never goes away, sorry! That oder is all of the chemicals that are outgasing from the foam. I ended up very sick for several days and had to throw away all of are bedding because of the smell. Terrible stuff, stay away this will cause serious health issue, just take a look on line.
What a waste of money, not worth the potential health risk.
I purchased one of these component mattresses from Sleepy Mountain and found it to be absolutely great so far. I'm thinking of buying a 6 inch for my other RV too. The price may seem too good to be true but it's everything advertised, 3 layers of qulaity foam and a removable cover. One caveat is that assembly is required but otherwise very comfortable.
i find this article very...fishy cuz it is the exact opposite of this website

it saids that there were a lot of complaints about component memory foam mattress and sleepymountainmattress. i was originally thinking of buying it from ebay sleepy mountain mattress but after the review, i would rather go to ikea and purchase it there
There may be a good "component" mattress out there, but I've tried many, and they all horribly inferior.
After sleeping on a nice Tempurpedic, we decided to try a generic memory foam. We got scammed TWICE by these so-called "component" memory foam people online (lost several hundred bucks, almost enough to buy a real Tempurpedic). We found this discussion board, which confirms our experience:

We then bought a really nice (medium-firm) memory foam from Fingerhut - which wasn't quite firm enough for us, but a very nice mattress nonetheless. It lasted about 4 years before starting to sag.
We're now back to an extra-firm standard spring mattress - and it's great for the back, but I miss the memory foam. But I will never again buy a mattress without trying it first.
Just to reiterate: there are a LOT of scams out there for component mattresses - I haven't seen a single eBay/amazon seller who isn't a scam with cheap pieces of foam.
Interesting. I will have to check it out.
