Slogans and mottos are used by everyone. Many of us have one that drives us each day of the week. Some of us have two or three. However, there is always one that sticks out in our mind that we religiously like to follow.
Businesses like to use them for advertisements. Many offices and places of employment will have them posted throughout their building. They do this to motivate workers to be resourceful and dedicated to the cause of the company.
Athletic teams use them to motivate great teamwork. A quote like "There is no I in Teamwork" motivates players to place the team ahead of themselves.
During World War II, as troops hit the beach at Normandy, soldiers would dive onto barbwire to hold it down. This was so troops could quickly move to safe ground. As they dove on the wire, they would shout the phrase, "Over Me." Those two words demonstrated sacrifice of life and body for the cause of freedom.
Every now and then, I come across a motto that makes no sense to me. "The tires squeal, but the brakes work," would be a good one for a brake company. However, I wouldn't have any idea, how to relate to it otherwise.
Here are a few mottos from writers at this site, Associated Content.
If you or (I) want something to be different, you or (I) need to do something differently.
I'm the main character in my own story.
Live life for today, because the past is gone and the future is not here yet.
Live life to the fullest. Do what you can do now before it is too late.
NEVER take NO for an answer.
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see (Heb 11:1)
Learning is everywhere and everlasting.
Believe in yourself, and so will others.
Some things are what they are.
All typos are optical illusions.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
All of these are admirable mottos to live by. If you do not have a motto, I would suggest that you do some research and find one that is fitting for you.
Let's review mine. "The dogs bark, but the caravan rolls on." People in life are always trying to tell you what to do. Some with good intentions and some just to hear themselves talk. I decided a long time ago, that my shoes only fit me. So I let the dogs bark, but I just keep on rolling along to my own beat.

Interesting! Mine is "Eat Dessert First!"
I like the concept. I'll have to find a motto that I can live by...there are so many to choose from.
How informative and inspiring!
E Pluribus Ectoplasm!
It's not the road I been down, but the stops I made along the way.
I agree with Karen because I am always in pain but I like to laugh rather than cry all the time. Thought provoking article.
Nice work. :-)
Laugh until you cry, don't cry until you laugh. That's been my motto for years now, since I got rsd. I spent too many days without relief from the relentless pain and would cry until someone made me laugh, if just a little laugh. I decided I'd much rather laugh until I cry because laughter is the best medicine, I'm living proof! :-) Great article!
A lot of good words to live by here.
