Slumdog Millionaire

What a Fantastic Movie!

Renji Shino
Without ruining the plot, this reviewer can safely tell you that Slumdog millionaire is a movie to go see, it is a slice-of-life movie about people in India who are living in the slums. Of course, this is an R-rated movie, which is not for those who are still learning the English language to see - so, if you are not secure in the spoken expression of English, skip it. Otherwise, go see it, this is a masterpiece of a film that is good for teenagers, adults, and senior citizens.

It is possible to enjoy the movie while deploring the conditions of the people depicted within the context of the film. Slumdog Millionaire is about some people whose lives are terrible, overall, when not completely abyssmal. The characters await some sort of change in their lives throughout their childhood, and are generally helpless, if not completely on the run. We watch these children slowly become adults, and their efforts to become people.

The dearth of basic things necessary to sustain life amongst the extremely poor people in Mumbai and Bombay is made very clear throughout the film, as are various coping mechanisms as well as hard labor designed to overcome this lack. However, this movie is also about a few people who are looking for a way out. Each of these people is finding a way out of the slums, their own way to survive or get ahead.

We get to see the failures, the successes, the trials, the foibles, the people who live and the people who die. The depictions of the textile industry in Mumbai, are unfortunately real, as per the time period.

The next time I go to see this movie, Slumdog Millionaire, I think I will bring along a box of tissues, as this is a difficult movie to watch without crying a bit. The characters portrayed are convincing and very real to the viewer, and each of their happy moments comes at a cost. This is a good movie, the acting is good, the set design is good, the direction is good, at its worst moments - Slumdog is more than a common place movie.

Even if Slumdog Millionaire is about the lowest of commoners, it is not an ordinary movie. Unfortunately, we here in the United States are going to be needing to address the growing tide of Americans, who will be joining me, supporting the economy by paying off their debts while living half-wild, as I do sometimes, not being able to be completely wild, as the characters depicted in Slumdog are. Look, if you see this movie once, and decide that you are going to spend the next two decades of your life living on street corners, under bridges, it is not an informational guide. Please do not think that this is a good idea for you to do. I worry that thousands of people will decide to move out of their homes after seeing this movie, in order to better themselves, just as Jamal and Salim did, or as a precursor to going overseas, without an understanding of legal terminology, or good lawyers.

Associated Content already has a lot of opinions about this movie, Slumdog Millionaire, thus
I feel that you might be more pleased reading more ideas from other people directly.

I hope that you would enjoy reading these reviews and pertinent information relevant to the production of this movie, Slumdog Millionaire. Everyone's truth is a valid truth, and Slumdog is a reflection of an imperfect world, thus it cannot be a perfect movie.
