Slumdog Millionaire Turns Top Dog at the Golden Globes 2009

SN
The Golden Globes awards last night were exactly what we needed in this time of hardships. Last night, the stars dazzled us once again, taking us on a ride of bewilderment and nostalgia. I sure couldn't help but feel a step down in the outrageously sparkling and gaudy. The frivolous took a back seat to the reasonable and effectively chic. The star were immaculately dressed and still in touch with the hardships faced by a majority of us.

The night belonged to the fresh and low budget Slumdog Millionaire, which took home four awards: film (drama), director (Danny Boyle), screenwriter (Simon Beaufoy) and composer (A.R. Rahman). Slumdog Millionaire, for those of you who haven't watched it ...yet... is spectacularly charged, funny, shocking and heartfelt all rolled into one. The Film is adapted from Vikas Swarup's novel Q&A, the film is set in modern-day Mumbai. My husband and I having watched the movie a few months ago and swore by it. It was inspiring to see new talent flow into Hollywood.

Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona was named best comedy. WALL-E won for animated feature. The Israeli film Waltz with Bashir took home the best foreign-language film.

The award for best actor in a drama went to Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler. Mickey Rourke's comeback has been accepted with a bang. The teary eyed Kate Winslet was a big winner last night pocketing both the dramatic actress prize for Revolutionary Road and the supporting-actress trophy for The Reader.

The British Iles swept up the top brass for acting in a comedy, with Ireland's Colin Farrell (In Bruges) and England's Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky).

The Diabolical Joker in The Dark Knight won late Heath Ledger, the best supporting actor award. Now Ledger has increasing his chances of becoming the second actor to win a posthumous Oscar. The director of Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan accepted the award for Ledger, who died last Jan. 22 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. The Oscar nominations come out on the first anniversary of Ledger's death.

The Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award went to the very deserving Hollywood veteran Steven Spielberg.

2008, was kind to Tina Fey once again. Tina picked up the best actress in a television series (comedy or musical) and the best television series (comedy or musical) went to 30 Rock.

All in all, the night was spectacular and undoubtedly was an ode to the up and coming global talent that makes Hollywood bedazzle us even more.
