Do you live in one of those little towns that are also the name of another country? Here in Indiana, in Miami County, we have a Mexico, Brazil and Chili. Or maybe a little town with the big city name, like Denver Indiana, or London Indiana. Did you know Moscow is really in Michigan? What about those folks up in Hell or Paradise Michigan.... Can they say, "It'll be a cold day in hell before I do/say whatever"? Or, how about "See ya in Paradise". (Michigan get's pretty cold in the wintertime.) The locals have no doubt heard all the pun's and jokes through the years.
In addition, how can any parent of a small child tell them that Santa doesn't live at the North Pole, but in Santa Clause Indiana? Did you know that in Nome Alaska, the name was originally was to have been 'Name', but somebody wrote it down wrong, and put an 'o' instead of an 'a'.
We have all heard the expression, Men are from Mars and women are from Venus.... Did they mean theres no women in Mars Pennsylvania, and no men in Venus Pennsylvania? And don't try teaching about the Solar System, there might be a kid that might think different: Moon is in Pennsylvania, Earth is in Texas, Neptune in is New Jersey and Pluto in is West Virginia.
If you ever want to head for Brooklyn, look no further than Indiana, we have it here. For those who are Irish at heart, there is Dublin. And if you're feeling a little country, head on over to the southern part of Indiana to a little town called Nashville. With the new Batman movie out, you might to visit the Bat Cave....North Carolina that is.
And one for the singles who hope to 'get lucky' sometime. They might want to check out these small towns around the country too. Climax, Colorado.... Horneytown, North Carolina..... Intercourse, Pennsylvania
And for a good laugh, you can always go to Happy Texas or Yeehaw Junction Florida.
If you think funny names are only for the U.S. ....think again. Here is a few from on the other side of the pond. In the U.K; Crapstone in Devon... Brown Willy in Cornwall.... Boggy bottom, in Herts.

Post a CommentIt's fun picking the funny town names off the map. My siblings and I used to play a map game where we'd pick out funny names, roads, places, etc. It was good for us. That's how we learned how to read a map.
Good stuff for sure, I like Normal, IN. Kinda strange to me.
