Smallville Season 7 Premiere Recap

Fall TV

Tye
The premiere picked up where the finale left off, with Chloe still unconscious as Lois fights to hold on to her. The dam that Bizarro burst out of completely collapses, putting Lex, Lois, Chloe, and the people of Smallville in definite danger. Of course, Clark and Bizarro is still having a fight to the death. Clark knocking him into an electric transformer to get away to do what he does best; save the people of Smallville. It seems as if he is just in time to save a young boy and his unconscious father from the impending death as the water released from the dam comes rushing towards them

Lex is saved from a blond, glowing angel. In actuality, it is really the first sight of the infamous Supergirl I've been hearing about all summer. At the time, he is trapped in the backseat of a police car that is currently impaled under the water. After his near death experience, Lex seemed to have had a life-changing realization. Will we be forced to endure a good Lex this season? It sure seemed that way as he turned himself in for Lana's death.

Bizarro seems hell-bent on relishing in Clark's life, but only after getting rid of the real thing first. After being weaken by his earlier fight with Clark, he goes to reload with a small dose of kryptonite, but realizes that he needs more if he will follow through with his plans to take the superhero out. He goes to break Lex out of jail but not before killing the 'suit' that is there visiting him. I am jumping ahead of myself so let me rewind just a little.

Chloe is taken to the emergence room after she still doesn't regain consciousness. The doctors, Clark, and especially Lois is completely at lost to what is wrong with her. Lois being Lois decides that she will not wait around and get answers from what she considers as the source, Lex. While she is there, she runs into Bizarro thinking he is, of course, Clark. What is so hilarious is that he hits on her, complete with a smack on the ass. Being a fan of the original movies, I was never a Clark/Lana shipper. Give me some Clark/Lois action any day. Even though it wasn't actually Clark, but seeing Tom Welling play that scene with obvious attraction in his eyes was completely adorable.

Anyway, while Lois is being hit on by the not-the-Clark, Chloe is being pronounced dead in the hospital. Just like I knew that Lana wasn't dead, I know that there was no way that Chloe wouldn't be around anymore. I was completely right. A little while later, she is waking up in the morgue, screaming for help. Just as Clark is about to completely lose it after being told that his sidekick is dead, he uses his super hearing to hear her cries for help. He is more than happy to see her alive, but he still wants some answers that she isn't ready to give.

Chloe, as with anybody, is spooked to be waking up in a morgue, wearing nothing but a sheet and a toe tag. She quenches Clark's inquisitive side and goes to find something more decent to walk out of the hospital in. She sees her own death certificate and quickly snatches it up only to find one for Lana right up under it. This is a sucky way for her to find out that her best friend is dead. I would almost feel sorry for her if, at that moment, I truly believe that Lana was dead.

Bizarro goes with Lex to find more kryptonite to have the strength to kill Clark and Clark goes to get any information that he can about Bizarro. He goes to the Martian and get the firepower he needs to go up against his evil half. He finds Bizarro in the dam, recharging, with Lex knocked out on the floor. Why is Lex always out cold whenever Clark has to use his powers in the same room as him? I was just wondering.

To make a long story short (well not exactly), the two are the total opposite of each other. While kryptonite weakens Clark and gives Bizarro power, the sun has the opposite effect on the two. Clark draws Bizarro into the sunlight and then, as Ralph Kramden would say, "pow, right to the moon, Alice'; or to the sun in this case.

I was disappointed by the quick takedown of Bizarro. I was hoping that he would be the season long opponent for Clark that forces him to grow more into his powers. There is nothing I like more than to see a character's growth, especially a character with untapped powers just waiting to bust out. If Bizarro isn't the one that will force Clark to do that this season, maybe Supergirl will be. Not that I think that she will be an opponent; but as a guide of some sort. After all, she can fly.

I think that the underlying theme this season will be the fight of Clark with his mortality while Chloe deal with her immortality. We only got a small look into the fact that she is a 'meteor freak'; this season we will see it come more fully in the foreground. I am excited about her growth as well.

In other news, Lana shows up walking the streets of China with a short blond bob. Didn't I say that she wasn't dead even before this episode aired? If you don't believe me, check out my article, www.associatedcontent.com/article/382731/fall_tv_shows_we_cant_wait_to_return.html . Anyway, I wonder how long it will take for the other people in Smallville to find out. I guess we will have to continue watching to find out.

I have to say that I didn't enjoy this episode as much as I thought I would. This was one of the top shows that I was looking forward to returning. Not that it was a bad episode, but it wasn't as thrilling and exciting as it should have been. It seemed to be too much going on, and yet at the same time, not much at all. I admire shows that want to answer all the questions left hanging from the finale. Sometimes, it is not best to do but to continue answering the questions a little at a time as the season goes on. I feel as if this was one of those times. Still, my displeasure with certain parts of this episode won't stop me from watching the show.
