Smart Phones for Busy Moms: MyTouch Vs. Blackberry

Kelly Dennehy Smith
Life as a stay at home mom is not sedentary. As most people know we juggle many tasks in the air at one time - kids, driving, errands, finances and more! In order to make my life a little less complicated three years ago, I used a Blackberry phone to keep on top of my email and phone requests. Boy, did I think I was too-cool-for-school when I had a Blackberry. Little did I know what the myTouch would do to make my life a little easier today!

Jump forward three years and I recently purchased a myTouch 3G smart phone. Wow - what a difference! While it has not been an easy transition to a touch-screen, and many butt-dials have been completed, it has been a completely new existence for me.

Today instead of walking to my desk to check my calendar for the next hockey and basketball games, I can easily press one button on my myTouch calendar to see our schedule for the weekend. No longer do I need to look up driving directions on the computer before I leave the house. Once I get into my car, I can punch the address into the navigator application and it will give me turn-by-turn directions with an actual voice talking as I am driving. Located within the phone there is a GPS which locates my starting point and the rest is history! Gone are those 3x5 note cards where I list every item I need in random order. Now, I have a grocery app on my smart phone where I can enter my grocery list and the stores I need to go to. Once I am at the store the application categorizes the items so I can get them quickly from the right section of the store. Finally, in these hard times all of us need help saving money. On my new myTouch I can use a coupon application that pulls my location up by GPS and then tells me all the local deals I can benefit from. I can also search on store names. With the click of a button, money is saved!

In closing, all I can say is I love my new myTouch smart phone. I still have all of the early benefits of the Blackberry, like email, phone and internet access, but with my new myTouch I can efficiently move through my day, juggling all of my tasks effortlessly while the technology handles the minutia. It's like my own personal assistant!
