Smart Ways to Save Money on Personal and Beauty Products

Claire-Marie della Puppa
There is no doubt that looking and feeling good with the help of beauty products can give your self-esteem a major boost; at the same time, when you are on a budget and need to save money, those same beauty products and regimens can burn a whole in your pockets quickly. Instead of opting for a Sasquatch look and giving up beauty products altogether, make every dollar count by opting for lower-cost products of good quality.

Here are a few tips on how to save on personal care and beauty products.

Saving on Hairstyle

Consider letting your hair grow longer and see if can pull off longer hair, which overall requires less frequent haircuts or only simple trimming of the ends.

If you do have long hair, try trimming it yourself or have a friend help you. You can find tips on how to trim your own hair in abundance on the web; check out your local library as well.

Another option is to pick a haircut that requires less hairstyle products and styling tools.

Pedicure

A pedicure at a nail salon can easily put you in for $20 or more. Aside from the massage chairs, the bubbly basin and the foot massage, the end result of a professional pedicure are, in my personal experience, often not any better than the results one can achieve at home; all it takes is a little know-how and the right utensils.

Home pedicures have the added, not to be underestimated, advantage that you can stay seated in your armchair, relaxing when you're finished, and don't have to take your pretty new toes across the dirty parking lot.

Invest in a few simple tools, like a foot paddle, some foot cream, and Epsom salt, all of which can be found for around $1.

Cosmetics

Wait for sales and combine them with coupons at supermarkets and drugstores. Check for coupons inside magazines, the Sunday papers or online, either on the product website itself or on websites like retailmenot.com or couponcabin.com. A simple google search will often deliver results when you are looking for a coupon of a particular brand.

Check out the clearance section in supermarkets and drugstores for greatly marked down beauty products. Even department stores offer sales, usually seasonal items. Try also eBay for make up bargains or check out makeupally.com to swap beauty products with others.

In general, you want to pick neutral colors for a classic look - something that will never go out of style- which will take you from day to night by just tweaking the way you apply your make-up a little. This was you will get the most bang for your buck.

Finally, the best beauty regimen of them all won't cost you a dime: eat healthy - fresh fruits and veggies over junk foods, exercise regularly, drink plenty of water, and be well rested.
