Smartlipo, or laser lipolysis, is a minimally invasive procedure used for the removal of fat. The procedure is quite simple: A minuscule tube containing laser fiber is inserted under the skin. The laser delivers energy directly to the fat cells, causing them to rupture. The liquid fat is absorbed by the body's lymphatic system and then drained away naturally.
Many people view smartlipo as a better liposuction option, as there are numerous benefits to Smartlipo. Smartlipo is much safer than traditional liposuction. Because Smartlipo is minimally invasive, there is less bleeding, less swelling, less bruising and less discomfort. Also, smartlipo is performed with a local anesthetic. Drugs used for general anesthesia during traditional liposuction procedures are relatively more dangerous than local anesthesia. The dangers of traditional liposuction associated with general anesthesia, include respiratory arrest and allergic reactions.
After traditional liposuction the skin, stretched by fat, rarely shrinks back to it's original size. Additional surgeries such as tummy tucks and skin excisions are often required to fix this sagging skin. The smartlipo procedure, however, promotes natural skin tightening. The heat from the laser causes collagen to tighten and the skin to firm and match the body's new contour.
Another great benefit to smartlipo rests in the lasting effects it may have on the body. After puberty, our bodies do not produce new fat cells. When we gain weight, fat cells merely expand. Since smartlipo removes these fat cells all together, you are less likely to gain weight again in the treated area.
Smartlipo is affectionately called the "lunchtime lipo". Laser liposuction requires less recovery time than traditional liposuction. Two days of 'rest' are usually suggested after a smartlipo procedure, but many patients are back in the office the following day.
Smartlipo's results are best seen in stubborn areas that are resistant to diet and exercise such as the arms, chin, hips, thighs and knees.
Smartlipo is FDA approved and currently costs $3000 to $8000 per area. With its low risks and stunning effects, smartlipo may just be the next generation of liposuction.

Post a CommentGreat article! I've also read that a minimum amount of fat absorbs back into the body. I've heard good things about the after-effects, as most people don't experience a lot of bruising or swelling, unlike regular liposuction.
There's a great medical spa in Austin I'd recommend - http://www.belezamedicalspa.com - for an overall great experience, from the consultation to the treatment.
Today's medical-grade lasers work by creating a powerful light beam that is adjusted to a specific frequency range. SmartLipo is different in that it uses a carefully calibrated laser to liquefy fat deposits through the top layers of the patient's skin. The laser actually ruptures fat cells, and the resulting oily, liquid substance is then removed through a tiny incision in the skin by the surgeon. The small laser can also seal blood vessels as it zaps fat, so there is less swelling, bleeding and bruising than with traditional liposuction. Research has shown that little, if any, fat is reabsorbed back into the body. The minimal invasiveness of the procedure allows patients to see faster results and to experience fewer complications. In addition, SmartLipo's patients need only a local anesthetic for this procedure, whereas liposuction requires general anesthesia. Because the patient is not completely unconscious, SmartLipo carries much fewer risks than traditional liposuction, and the r
