Smashbox Lash Revival Treatment & Conditioner: A Review

Can a $35 Product Make Lashes Longer and Fuller?

L. Lee Scott
After researching a host of Lash Enhancing products, ranging from prescription LatisseTM to Maybelline's "Define-A-Lash" mascara, I decided to try a product that promised to both lengthen and fill out my lashes. I wanted a treatment, not a treating mascara, so I went to my usual first brand choice, Smashbox.

I was lucky: I hit the website on the one day in June, 2010, when Smashbox was selling a limited number of their new Lash Revival Treatment and Conditioner at the pre-release price of $35. The product will have a full release in August, 2010, for $49. According to Smashbox research, something like 95% of the women who used it daily for 8 weeks saw visible improvement in the length and volume of their lashes.

What I lack now is a list of ingredients; they were listed the day the product was available, but I neglected to write them down, and they won't be available until the product begins sales in August. I do know that my very sensitive eyes don't have problems with them, which isn't always the case.

Smashbox Lash Revival Treatment has two applicators (see second photo). The one that looks like an eyeliner brush applies the lash treatment. Apply it to the upper lash line, as close to the edge of the eyelid as you can. (I also apply it to my lower lashline; I don't know if it will help, but I figured it was worth a try.) The other end looks like a mascara wand, and it applies the conditioner to upper and lower lashes. A word of warning here: make sure that ALL the mascara is removed from your lashes before you apply it, because if you don't, bits of mascara from your lashes will adhere to the brush. This happened to me when I borrowed one of my sister's "make-up removing" wipes. It seemed to get the mascara off, but it didn't get it all.

I've been using Smashbox Lash Revival for just over three weeks. My lashes are definitely softer. I've never had a problem with lashes breaking, so I can't really speak to that, but based on how much softer my lashes are now, three to four weeks of use would probably end that problem,. My lashes seem to be fuller, and maybe a little longer. I'm not getting mascara on my glasses yet but I am having more of a problem with getting mascara high on my upper lid when I open my eyes wide after applying mascara (oops). My lower lashes seem to be more visible, even without make-up. I do have dark lashes, but since my lower lashes aren't very numerous, they haven't always been very obvious without eyeliner or mascara. They are now.

I'm not going to give Smashbox Lash Revival a full rating until I've used it through all of July, but at this point, I'll say that it seems to be making a difference. I'll get back to you on the first of August, and let you know if I'll buy it again when this tube runs out!

Interesting. I'm actually looking at this right now on Smashbox's website, and not sure if I should get it or not. :D
