City of Smithville in a Nutshell
Smithville is the epitome of a small town. As you drive, or walk, through, you will find a few small shops and plenty of quaint and charming homes. Plenty of young families and senior couples are out and about on late afternoon walks and kids are playing on the front lawns. The Amish are in their buggies driving up and down the roads waving as they pass by. There are farms in every direction and plenty of fresh open air and clear blue skies. As you go outside of town about a mile you will find what my family and I consider an absolute gem. It is known as The Barn. It is a restaurant, but it sits on a few acres and on these acres are shops are other things to do.
The Barn
The Barn is located at 877 West Main Street in Smithville. I highly recommend the buffet and you can enjoy it on Fridays from 5:00pm until 8:30pm; Saturdays from 4:00pm until 8:30pm; and Sundays from 11:30am until 6:30pm. The buffet is stuffed with homestyle, homemade foods, such as fried chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, biscuits, soups, salads and other homemade favorites.
Once you are finished eating, you can stop by one of the shops on the property. Buchanan Place offers a variety of collectibles and gifts for you and as souvenirs for those back at home. The Oak Cupboard offers a variety of unusual and the usual edible treats. Toyrifix offers a variety of toys for kids, adults and everyone in between. The Amish Outlet Store offers handmade furniture.
Lodging
Mirabelle Bed and Breakfast is located just 8 minutes from The Barn at 1626 Beall Avenue. Mirabelle offers you a comfortable and small town experience, but with modern amenities. They do have wireless available, for example, as well as current DVDs. You will also get a terrific breakfast each morning and if you have nay dietary restrictions, they are more than happy to work with you on these. The hosts are gracious and caring and will treat you like family.
The Black Squirrel Inn is another Bed and Breakfast and it is located just 10 minutes from The Barn at 636 College Avenue. This bed and breakfast is an 1880 Victorian home with a spacious side porch that is perfect for your morning coffee or your evening nightcap. There are full bathrooms in every guest room and the grounds are romantic and well-landscaped. The breakfast here is equally as wonderful and this bed and breakfast also has wireless internet.

I used to do inventory at the Duke & Duchess in Smithville every month. Bad part was it was always our first store of the day and I could never go to the Barn. Thanks for reminding me - I see a roadtrip coming!
