Smoked Sausage Potato Bake

We all run out of ideas for new foods every once in a while. I created this recipe because it appeals to everyone in my family. Feel free to change things around and make it your own. My friends and family have given this very high reviews.

Smoked sausage potato bake casserole

Ingredients:

One pound of smoked sausage
five slices of American cheese
butter to taste
one table spoon of sour cream (low fat or fat free works well)
one half a box of Velveeta cheese
one five pound bag of russet potatoes (can substitute for instant)
milk

Cookware:

One over sized skillet
One large boiling pot
One mixer
One strainer
One casserole dish

Preparation:

First, Cut sausage into small circular pieces. Cook sausage on medium heat to desired color. I prefer mine slightly burnt. Set aside in casserole dish.

You can chose to peel or leave the skin on the potatoes (I prefer mine unpeeled). Boil until soft all the way through. Strain and return to pan or stand alone mixer. Add milk, sour cream, and butter to taste. Mix the potatoes until you reach desired consistency. It is best to leave them somewhat thick because of the cheese.

In the meantime, pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

Put your mashed potatoes into casserole pan. Mix ingredients well.

Next, Cut cheese into small square pieces and place them throughout the dish. Judge by looks. Too much cheese will make the dish watery. ( If this happens, have instant potato flakes on hand and add them as needed.)

Finally, Insert the casserole dish into the preheated oven and bake for thirty minutes or until cheese is melted throughout the dish.

Cool and serve. Children especially enjoy this dish, and it is great the next day re- heated as leftovers.
