Less people are smoking these days due to high cigarette prices in many countries and the fact that most people accept the grave health implications. Quite a few countries around the world have also placed limitations on where you can and can't smoke and it is no longer as sociably acceptable as it once was. It is rare that smokers every get any good news about their habit. Well there may be some positive news to cheer up those who just can't or don't want to give up smoking. There is now research to suggest that drinking green tea may reduce lung cancer risk.
Lung cancer is a nasty disease that kills up to three million people worldwide every year. Anything that could be used to reduce lung cancer risk has to be a good thing.
Giving up cigarettes is probably the most positive thing you can do to improve your health and extend your life. Some people just don't want to say goodbye to this habit but they may still be things that can protect them from some smoking related diseases. If green tea can possibly stop smokers from developing lung cancer then it is certainly worth considering.
A recent study in Taiwan by Chuang Shan Medical University now suggests that drinking green tea significantly lowers your chances of developing lung cancer. These health protection benefits can be obtained by smokers and non-smokers alike. Drinking as little as one cup a day can reduce your risk of developing the disease; us to thirteen times less likely. It is the antioxidant properties in green tea that is believed to reduce the risk of lung cancer by protecting the lung.
This research should not be viewed as giving the green light for smoking.
Even if there is more evidence to support the green tea protection in relation to lung cancer there are still many other serious health risks associated with smoking. On the other hand, if people have no intention of quitting tobacco then it certainly sounds like a good idea to begin drinking some green tea every day. Even those of us who don't smoke can still benefit from green tea if it can reduce lung cancer risk; many non-smokers do develop this disease.
