Smokers Rights Need Work

Chen Salis
Things really do not make much sense. In our country we are facing very serious issues. Global Warming is a major problem. It is extremely difficult for the average person to find a job. Unemployment is at a scary rate. The United States is in the midst of a health care crisis. So many Americans do not have health insurance, and if health insurance is not offered or affordable at your work place, good luck finding any that is worth a crap.

Poverty in the United States certainly does not get too much attention. So many people are forced to make choices such as buy groceries or medication? Do you drive to work or buy groceries? Gas prices are at an all time high. This is not merely a coincidence, gasoline is big business and our government does not care about the choices our country faces. You are a number and unimportant. What about all of the people who are homeless? As a society we easily assume that these people have made their choices, and that is why they are in this situation. It is so much easier to feel nothing for these unfortunate folks than to help them for some reason.

However trivial issues such as smoking are extremely important now. The anti tobacco movement has reached a ridiculous level. God forbid you indulge in this" bad habit". You will be criticized. You will deal with strangers commenting on the disgusting habit that is your own and not theirs. Does nobody in America remember to mind his or her own business? Why should you care if I smoke? I do not care if you drink beer, slap your wife or watch pornography. In my opinion those habits are far worse than smoking a cigarette.

Stand on Line has really been pushing it and making their opinions public. You cannot turn on the TV or radio without hearing or seeing one of these ignorant commercials. Sure I agree kids should not be smoking anyhow. But, since when do we listen to teenagers? Oh, I forgot they know everything. The person behind this stupid campaign should be slapped. The anti tobacco movement is basically brain washing our youth. It teaches kids to be nosy and outspoken. This is still America, the land of the free. I feel it is my god given right to smoke cigarettes. You are allowed to own guns, why can't I smoke in peace?
