Smoking Embalming Fluid

Celin Childs
Everyone knows that embalming fluid is a substance used by funeral homes in order to preserve the dead. We know that a mortician drains the blood of the dead and then fills a needle with the extremely pungent embalming substance and then inserts it into the corpse in order to prevent the decaying process. Most people would not know where or how to get access to this substance let alone fully understand the embalming process. We know that embalming fluid is very popular amongst the dead; I am just having a hard time understanding why the living is insisting on smoking it.

The drug "wet", "sherm", "fly", "amp", or "illy", has been sweeping across the nation for many years now and more and more people desire to experience this outrageous drug trend. "Wet" is when a cigarette or marijuana joint is dipped into a vile of embalming fluid, dried completely and then smoked. This drug phenomenon has very similar effects to that of PCP (phencyclidine) by causing extreme hallucinations. It is also believed that most of the embalming fluid that is sold on the drug market contains some form of PCP.

Smoking embalming fluid can be very dangerous and can cause a person to become extremely violent. There have been cases of people on "Wet" killing others because of the drug or committing other heinous crimes. In the year 2000, a 14-year old teenage boy from Philadelphia violently stabbed his neighbor more than 70 times after smoking the drug. It is not uncommon for a person to experience violent feelings while on "sherm". Other symptoms may include comas, kidney failure and strokes. A person on "sherm" may also have a very strong desire to undress and dislike the taste of meat.

The feelings that people are getting from the drug are not only that of violence, however, they also feel a strong sense of euphoria as well as paranoia. Invincibility and forgetfulness are also common side effects of the drug.

A "wet" cigarette can be sold for about $20.00 and can cause a person to become extremely high for 6 hours up to 3 days depending on the amount smoked. It is very shocking how so many people are beginning to or have been smoking the substance for several years.

You may wonder where people are being able to obtain embalming fluid. There have been cases in Louisiana of people stealing the fluid from funeral homes. It may be unknown to where the majority of wet users are getting the fluid.

Formaldehyde, the main ingredient in embalming fluid is dangerous by itself. This carcinogen has been linked to causes of nasal and lung cancer as well as links to brain cancer and leukemia. This substance is extremely dangerous if smoked. Imagine the potential dangers of mixing it with other chemicals and then being ingested along with a cigarette.

It is very important that we as a people are informed on the drugs out there. It is very important that we warn our children about this drug and that we ourselves are aware that there are people out there who are crazy enough to smoke it.

I hope that God willing this information will be of some help to you.

Wow, uhm the effects of a sherm stick are felt for hardly an hour. it doesnt not stay in your system. And new studies show that sherm is actually about as addicting and hamrful as a cigarette. so yeah, calm down people. And to the people spouting about the how 'politically correct' the use of this drugs is... Eff off kindly. It is not your decision what one person does and it will never be. And if god was real, he left us with free will so he can eff off too

No one smokes formaldehyde or embalming fluid.

These are both nicknames given to PCP, which can be used on cigarettes or marijuana by dipping them into PCP.

If you smoked formaldehyde you would most likely start vomiting due to the smell.

    honstaly, i would not
"warn" my child about it. i've smoked "wet" before, when i smoked marijuana. i liked it. but to me,if my parents warned me about smoking wet, that would make me want to try it more. just my opinion.

I have smoked it and dipped it into the embalming fluid myself. That is exactly where it comes from. Different parts of the country may have different practices but it is definitely NOT an urban myth-YOU'RE clueless!

Smoking embalming fluid is an urban myth.

It's one of the many that swirl around PCP use, and it's complete crap. Liquid PCP has an incredibly powerful, acrid smell that clueless observers in the 70s mistook for formaldehyde, and this error has been parroted by parents, law enforcement and teen stoners ever since.

Formaldehyde is poisonous and combustible and can't be smoked for a high. PCP is dipped on cigarettes, weed joints, or mixed with parsley flakes and rolled into joints.

I grew up in a suburb of Philly that was one of the few areas in the country where people still use the drug (as compared to the popularity of meth, cocaine and heroin). They were $10-$15 a joint (on parsley or, less frequently, mint leaves) and most people there simply called them "bags."
