Smooth Away - Does it Eliminate the Need for Shaving?

Madeleine DeWinter
Women across the world hate to shave, and I am no exception. New products are consistently developed and marketed to us with promises of easier methods to accomplish this time-consuming task. The Smooth Away TM hair removal product is just one such creation, and although I'm normally not enticed by "as seen on TV" products, this one I decided to try.

Smooth Away TM uses what amounts to a very fine grit sandpaper (superfine crystals) that buff away unwanted hair and exfoliate the skin. According to the directions, as long as you use a gentle, circular motion with the pad and don't buff in one place for too long, the process is painless and safe.

As for my experience - I did exactly as instructed. I made sure my skin was clean and dry and held taut any loose skin. I rubbed in a circular motion and saw plenty of dead skin cells but no hair removal. It seemed to glide right over the hair, both thin and coarse.

Looking back, I should have realized that if Smooth Away TM was really all it claimed to be, I'd have heard about it from more venues than just their commercial. It's like watching a TV program on Big Foot and waiting until after the commercial break to find out if they actually found proof of such a creature. If Big Foot really existed, it would be breaking news long before the Discovery Channel special. And, if a product had been invented that negated the need for shaving, it would have been shouted from the rooftops by women all over the world.
