Whether we're watching a movie or just chatting with friends, our hands will inevitably travel to the snack trays that may be hovering near. However, you also don't want to gain 20 pounds over the holiday season. So how do you enjoy your holidays but still lose weight? Read on to find out which snacks are healthiest for the holidays!

1. substitute other nuts for peanuts

Because peanuts contain a large amount of saturated fat which is bad for the heart, it's better to replace peanuts with toasted almonds or macadamia nuts. It's better to buy the unsalted kinds of nuts. You can also add some raisins to make your own trail mix. However, eat this in moderation, no more than a small bowl each day and you are on track to a slimmer waist!

2. substituted fried chips for baked chips

both are chips, but their fat content differ astoundingly. Healthy baked chips contain 2 grams of fat per serving while fried chips may contain as much as 10 grams per serving. A good choice is to buy some baked tortilla chips and dip it in some homemade salsa.

3. substitute ham with turkey breast

Lean turkey breast is much lower in sodium and fat content than ham. Furthermore, turkey is also a good source of protein and will help you feel full with smaller servings. Thus, it's a good choice for the holidays if you're looking to shed a few pounds!

4. substitute potato chips with rice cakes

Likes potato chips, rice cakes are crunchy and very tasty. This treat can be eaten alone or with other foods such as yogurt. Unlike potato chips though, rice cakes contain less saturated fat and unhealthy oils than potato chips. People who like potato chips can try rice cakes as a substitute.

5. Sparkling water to replace sodas

Sparkling water has no color and no calories but the texture is very similar to sodas. It can mixed with fruit juice to produce low-calorie drinks that are tasty but don't have as many empty calories as soda.

6. Replace regular beer with light beer

beer has traditionally been a high-calorie drink. Thus, if you must have it, try to go with light beer which has just 100 calories per can, 2/3 of what traditional beer has. However, men should limit the number of beers they drink per day to two while women should limit their intake to one.
