A pair of feet went walking
On a mild summer's day;
One tired out before the other
But was at a loss as to what to say.
You see, these feet were mismatched,
And placed backwards on the legs '"
So the weight that they bore
Was far less for the one
And for the other, a great deal more;
With relative equality
They both got sore
And were put up to rest
Until someone needy of exercise
Created the next pedestrian test.
Feet have no jaws
Nor have they teeth,
But they carry the weight
Of all that our appetites
Bequeath.
Whether we and they are large or small,
Those things with the toes
Carry it all.
It is always a
Reasonable time
In which to reflect
And wonder
Why the pieces of us
That carry the weight
Get so little respect.
