Sneak Peak Album Review of Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King by Dave Matthews Band

Rich Jones
The Dave Matthews Band is a Rock music group that is heavily influences by Jazz. This unique musical mixture has produced a lot of success for the band which included millions of albums according to Billboard Charts available via their website at billboard.com. The band also netted a Grammy for some of their amazing work, which included very successful singles such as What Would You Say, So Much To Say and Ants Marching. This also led to some successful college campus tours and a cult following of youngsters and students. The band has also been known for their summer tours within the United States and Europe and in my opinion this has been one of the keys to their success. They band is Rock group that has managed to be successful and very accessible to their fans. Their fan base can look forward to seeing the band during the summer each year and this keeps the fan interested and the band successful. According to the Ticketmaster website this also lead to formation of cover bands of the Dave Matthews Band that found success within music by performing songs written by DMB. The Dave Matthews Band has become so well known for performing at colleges that they released a live album in 1999 titled Live at Luther College and I have been a fan ever since. That's why I wanted to pre order their new album titled Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King via Amazon but I thought I would listen to the CD via Youtube to see if the album was worth the money.

The CD has 13 tracks in total with a length of about 55 minutes from start to finish. The best songs are Funny The Way It Is, Alligator Pie, Squirm, and Baby Blue but I find that these are probably the only songs that are worth listening to any adding to a collection. I would rate this CD a 2/5 because I find that it is just not as good as the CD Live at Luther College but that was probably one of the best CDs they ever released. This CD could have been a lot better but if you like DMB then you will enjoy Wilco, David Gray, and Bruce Hornsby. If you would like to save some money I suggest you buy the best tracks from Itunes unless you are a collector of the music the band releases.

You save yourself ten bucks so you can buy a couple Bruce Hornsby tracks and another hobby. Nice review, stick to something you have a little passion for or interest in {like one of the Celene Dione shows youve been to} so you can post something better than this. Now about the music, I am a fan and I myself did preorder the album. Took my chances and was justly rewarded with 13 original tracks that I think are right on track with the range and diversity that DMB fans have come to exspect and love. Tim Reynolds brings some of the his best guitar licks back to the band and adds a driving sound that would catch the ear of any true rocker {ie Squirm}. Jeff Coffin has respectfully filled the shoes of Leroi Moore with his talent and his exsperiance on the Sax {and other instruments}. Bottom line is that this latest release from DMB is what fans have been waiting for it kicks ass. listen to the whole CD three times, and you will be convinced that you have gotten your moneys worth.
