Sneak Peak Album Review of Brawl by Super 8 Bit Brothers

Rich Jones
Super 8 Bit Brothers is a band that I discovered during a visit to New York while listening to the Z100 radio station. They placed a track titled Blinky Loves Pepper and I was impressed with the concept of the CD. According to their website, the band is inspired by 8 bit sounds that formally made up older video game soundtracks in the 80s and 90s. This is a band from Chicago and they basically sing Pop music that is constructed over beats that sound like old Mario Games. In fact, the name of their upcoming album Brawl is a tribute to some of the most popular video games by Nintendo called Smash Brothers Brawl. This musical concept is something that any fan of the Nintendo game will appreciate because they already love the 8-bit music. However, for those that are afraid to listen to this band I suggest you give it a shot. The concept is unique and the band manages to put together decent songs on most tracks. For this reason I decided to pre order their new CD titled Brawl via Amazon but I thought it would be a good idea to listen to the CD via Youtube before it arrives in stores.

The CD includes 15 tracks in total and the length is about 70 minutes from start to finish. What I like about this CD is that it is not a straightforward Pop CD. It fuses elements of Pop music with some Rap and even some Rock. This creates an experience much like you are listening to Skeletonwitch, 3 Inches of Blood, Municipal Waste, and Children of Bodom all at once. If you can imagine all of these bands playing a unique mix and then you mix in a bit of Rap music then you will get the perfect picture of music on this CD. Many of the songs are about playing video games and showing off their skills while others are about loving someone. The best tracks on this CD are Cyber Space Sirens / Computer Casanovas, Roll It Up, Cheap-O, andGeeks No More. However, I feel like songs such as Blinky Loves Pepper do not belong on the CD because they are not as good as the other tracks on this CD. Overall this is a good CD and probably the direction that music will be headed in the future. I would rate this release 2/5 because of the songs I dislike here.
