Sneak Peak Album Review of the Cartel Gathering 4 by DJ Rated R & Big Tobacco

Rich Jones
If you don't know what a mix CD is then chances are you listen to a lot of the radio. Either that or you have XM radio and pay a subscription and I do not do either of these. As such, I try to keep up with the latest music by listening to DJs that release mix CDs. Typically these CDs include some of the best songs that will soon be released and some new material by artists that are looking to gain exposure. I have always like the mixture of these CDs because you can hear a new track by a favorite artist and then listen to another song by someone looking for exposure and find a new favorite in the process. In the past I would always buy CDs by Big Mike for new music and I would find a lot of great new Rap music. There is nothing like listening to a new CD by DJ Kay Slay and discovering a new artist such as Papoose. For this reason I decided to pre order the new CD by DJ Rated R & Big Tobacco titled The Cartel Gathering 4. I pre ordered this CD via Mixunit but I listened to the CD via Youtube before it arrives to see what I would be getting.

The CD is 37 tracks in total and the length is about 70 minutes total from start to finish. This is a problem for me because each track is about 2 minutes long and it leaves you with an incomplete feeling because of the length. Some of the songs are horrible and the short length is an asset to the CD. However, some of the tracks on this CD are great and I would listen to hear the entire track. Many tracks are cut short and for that the CD losses points. What I like about the CD is all the featured artists including Blaq Mobb, LA The Darkman, Big Twins, Platinum P, F Dot, Lloyd Banks, D-Block, The Jacka, Tony Ducks, Ricky P, Raekwon, Hank Dope and Ice Eazy just to name a few. The best tracks on this CD include Dirty Money, My People, Bad Dream and We Aint Playin. For anyone who is looking for a lot of new artists to enjoy I would say this CD is for you. However, if you only enjoy the tracks by Jadakiss then you should skip this 3/5 rated CD.
