Sneak Peak Album Review of Enemy of the State by Lupe Fiasco

Rich Jones
Lupe Fiasco is one of those musicians that I never expected would find a following, the reason for this is that he is not the typical type of Rap star since he is not built with muscle like 2pac or always talking about guns like Biggie and he doesn't have the credibility that comes from being in the Rap industry for a very long time such as Ice Cube or Common.

Lupe Fiasco is an artist that I could say is basically a mixture of Pharrell (of The Neptunes) and Kanye West in fact, both of these artists contributed to production on the debut album by Lupe titled "Food And Liquor". This was an album that featured one of the biggest singles of the year titled "Kick, Push" according to Billboard Chart available at their website Billboards.com and this resulted in 3 Grammy nominations for Lupe. His second album also made fans very happy and found success on the radio and on the charts because of the hit single "Superstar" which featured Matthew Santos. He has also recorded songs with Jill Scott, Snoop Dogg, Sarah Green, Pooh Bear, Nikki Jean and Jay-Z.

Lupe is about the only artist I can think of that has created a unique identity and split personality as one regular person and another who is confident and assured. This creates unique play and interaction between the two characters on his songs that is enjoyable in song form. Because of this I decided to pre order his new CD titled "Enemy Of The State" via Mixunit and decided to listen to the album via Youtube before it ships to see if I liked the album.

This album is a mixtape that includes 12 tracks and 2 of these are introductions, which essentially means that this tape is very short. There are 10 new tracks and 2 intros and the total length is 28 minutes long and this is far to short. A lot of the songs are cut short and should be a lot longer and because of this the quality suffers. The music is great, this is Lupe in rare form and I enjoy these very much. The best tracks are " Say Something", "Love Come Down" and "The One" which is a throwback to the confidence and word play found on his last CD. If you are a Lupe fan you will enjoy this despite the length so I rate it a 3/5.
