Sneak Peak Album Review for "Like Me: The Young Goldie" by Lloyd

Rich Jones
In the start of the decade, Murder Inc was by far the most popular record company in the music industry. The reason for this is that this record label was home to red hot hit makers Ashanti and Ja Rule. It was then later expanded to include hardcore artists like Cadillac Tah and young RNB prodigy Lloyd. After Ja Rule had some extensive beef with 50 Cent and G-Unit label head Irv Gotti faced a federal investigation for some allegations and once the court case was cleared up the label name was changed to The Inc. This was done to remove the negative stigma around the record label and at this point Ashanti, Cadillac Tah and Lloyd were released and Vanessa Carlton was signed to the label. They all still make music but instead of huge record labels they release music independently. Since I have enjoyed their music for almost 10 years I decided that it would be worth it to since and see if I should buy the album when it is released. I was able to listen to the album through Youtube, it is titled "Like Me: The Young Goldie" and includes features by Bun B, J Holiday, Juelz Santana (of Skull Gang and Dipset), Mack Maine (of Young Money), Nicki Minaj and Lil C.

The problem with this is that the CD is an EP or shortened album so 8 songs which have a run time of less than 30 minutes are packed with guest features. The album features the smash hit "Pusha" which compares love to drugs and talks about experiencing a high from a female. The songs on this CD are clever and the guest features lend to a nice blend on Hip Hop and RNB. If you love the Lloyd work with Ja Rule on singles of the past such as "Where I'm From" then you will love these call and response type tracks. Although the material doesn't have much variety in terms of topic since it is RNB and the CD only includes 8 tracks I would say it is a 3/5 rated album. If you are a real fan then you should pick this CD up, the material is worth owning but I think the $10 price tag that Best Buy and Target charge is a bit much considering you can buy it from Itunes for around $5 and save yourself some money. Besides, it's a recession so everyone could use the extra money.
