Sneak Peak Album Review of "The Mirror" by Ja Rule

Rich Jones
If you have been listening to Rap or even music in general for any period of time then you understand that everyone has their time on top of the musical world. From Jay-Z to Lil Wayne to DMX to Kanye West to 50 Cent to Drake and even Ja Rule. Ja Rule was probably the most famous rap star in the year 2000 which lead to him recording several records with fellow Murder Inc artist Ashanti and even Jennifer Lopez (or J-Lo). Ja Rule was one of the best for a reason, he has a lot of talent but once he became known for his songs featured J-Lo and Lil Mo he fell from the top. Since then Ja has been trying to recapture his fame and one of the ways he approached this was by appearing on the Irv Gotti show on VH1 which is called "Gotti Knows Best". They used the show to promote their new music, they basically show Ja Rule, Irv Gotti and even The Game recording music. It shows the creative processes so as to make the viewer enjoy the music before it was released. When I watched this episode and Ja Rule recorded the song "Body" on VH1 I knew I had to have this CD. The track was probably one of the best songs I had ever heard from Ja Rule. For this reason I pre ordered his CD titled "The Mirror" from Amazon, this is a CD which was originally supposed to be released in 2007 but it has been delayed many times since and it will now ship in 2010. In any event, I decided to listen to the album via Youtube and see if it was worth the money that VH1 made it seem it was.

The album features 15 tracks and includes no features which I think is a step in the right direction. If you are a Ja Rule fan then you will get a lot of him here. The problem is that the songs are not very good, the best songs on the CD include "Body" and "Father Forgive Me" because it reminds me a lot of a previous song titled "Race Against Time". These songs are were the old Ja Rule shows up, it is a light mix of RNB and Rap but the problem is the rest of the CD is pretty bad. I suggest when it arrives in stores you buy these tracks via Itunes and leave the rest out. I would rate this
