Sneak Peak Album Review of Raymond Vs Raymond by Usher

Rich Jones
As everyone who knows me can tell you I have been an RNB fan for as long as I can remember, I was a fan of Boys II Men when I was only eight years old. I could remember loving their music and it is the reason I still listen to RNB performers like Day26, Ryan Leslie and Trey Songz. I have listened to music by Usher since 1997 which is 12 years now and he has had some amazing CDs. The best of these in my opinion was his CD titled "Confessions" which he recorded after his breakup with the female formally of TLC according to an interview he did with Vibe Magazine in 2004. The CD was released in 2004 and featured the mega hits "Confessions", and "Burn". It was a great CD and projects he released after this CD have fallen short of this mark. For example his CD "Here I Stand" included only one hit single titled "Love In This Club" but the CD flopped because the material just fell short in my opinion. You simply can't recreate a period in time and Usher was unable to create something unique with that project.

I pre ordered his upcoming CD titled "Raymond Vs Raymond" on Amazon, the CD is scheduled to ship in 2010 and I was able to listen to the entire CD via Youtube and I must say that I am pretty disappointed in the project. The CD is literally packed with material, it includes 20 songs and the features include Pharrell (of The Neptunes), T.I. and Plies. The problem with tracks like "Traffic" and "Radar" is that the songs are basically about club life and finding a girl in the club.

The songs are written about taking a female home from the club and they no longer discuss love and hurt like "Burn" did back in 2004 when Usher was at his best. I find the songs on this CD are unoriginal and very repetitive and I don't think it is worth the price of $10. We have over 12 years of material from Usher and to be honest most of it sounds the same. In previous projects he cold have simply included a feature by Young Jeezy or Lil Wayne and sold some records. However, that is not enough today and the material on this CD is just very much in the box for Usher. I would suggest that you pass on this CD because it scores a 1/5 from me.

I think Trinity came down way too hard on you though. An opinion is an opinion. I don't have to agree with you and you don't have to agree with me, and the people who comment shouldn't expect the reviewer to be a parrot for what they think. Usher does do more music for the club and for the single folks though, but I see what you're saying. "Confessions" had a nice balance of party music versus more intense and honest music. I don't think you need to "get over" Chili though. They were a gorgeous couple and he really was getting out of a relationship with Chili at the time. However, they both clarified that those songs were about an ex-girlfriend before Chili came along.

You rated a CD four months in advance before the final ones were released. Don't you think that was just a tadbit too early? I listened to the CD today, and all of the songs are definitely not about going to the club. FYI: End punctuation goes on the inside of end quotation marks, and re-create has a hyphen unless you're talking about recreation. I do agree with you that "Here I Stand" just wasn't a good CD. But this is one I liked quite a bit.

Dude!! Do you actually believe music is all about love and hurt? I think if you listened to this cd with a more open mind you would realize its a masterpiece. I also think you need to get over confessions and chilli like yesterday. Usher did. Matter of facts all TRUE fans of Usher's music did. If you were a bit more open minded you would have realized that all the other albums besides Confessions are more his style and beat confessions by like a gazillion times. Like he says on- In My Bag feat.T.I. he did his confessions a long time ago. So get over them. You need to start looking at his music more objectively because I know a lot of people share my opinion that his music has evolved to a new level of maturity and is even ever more usher if you know what I mean.Which is one of the things we his staunch fans love about his music. His unique musical styling. Until you get that stop lying to yourself that you can objectively critic his music.

The article does not flow at all and gives the impression that the writer is disconnected from RnB completely. Have you not listened to the track "Oh my gosh". This track alone guarantees a score higher than 1!!
