Sneak Peak Album Review of Road Kill by Joell Ortiz

Rich Jones
Joell Ortiz is a Hispanic Rap star that I first became a fan of when he was signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records. However, he stopped making music for a while and I had forgotten about him until he appeared alongside side of his fellow group members Crooked-I, Joe Budden and Royce Da 5'9 (known together as Slaughterhouse) at a New York concert that 50 threw which included Mike Poster, Kid Cudi, Chuck Pain, Red Café, Jadakiss and others. The concert was great and I enjoyed the songs performed by Joell Ortiz so I decided to pre order his album which is known as a mix tape via Mixunit. The album is titled Road Kill and it only costs $7.99, which is pretty cheap. Since the CD has not yet arrived I thought I would listen to the CD via Youtube and I am happy with the content of the project.

The CD has 18 tracks in total and the whole CD is produced by Frequency and he deserves credit for this CD because every beat is unique and goes perfectly with the track, It is rare to find such high production values, this CD has all original songs and no recycled tracks which is nice. The best tracks are Snake Charmer and Stalker which is a story complete with morals and set to a great beat. This track is very similar to the material that Slick Rick would record or DMX on his Damien tracks or even just about any Joe Budden track. The only song I didn't like was Solider Of Love where he raps with a fake English accent that makes Hollywood actors seam very talented. On this track Joell Ortiz sounds like Hugh Laurie in his staring rose as House on Fox. In other words, the accent makes the track horrible but I also hate House for the same reason so if you enjoy one then you will like the other. Other than that the CD is well done, most of the tracks have purpose to them and they will teach you something. You should listen to each track at least twice. The lyrics here are great and the production is even better. This is probably the best release from any Slaughterhouse member since "Escape Route" by Joe Budden. I suggest that you pick this CD up because you will get a lot out of it and I rate it a 4/5.
