Sneak Peak Album Review of Scratch My Back by Peter Gabriel

Rich Jones
What I love most about music is the art behind every song by some artists. There are many artists today that are unable to write their own music and they sing songs written by others. They become a front and they use their look and appeal to sell a false tale to their fan base. That is my definition of being robbed by an artist. I personally follow artists that I believe have unique prospective and a story to be told. If they are unable to come up with something creative then there is no need to be a fan because the material is not based on their experience. I suppose I enjoy known that an artist can relate to experiences that I have in life. Those shared experiences produce a feel that can't be reproduced by any other form of art. In my opinion music is best when artists are free to jump out of the box and record something that would never be expected of them. I love artists that take their music in a new direction in the name of art. Peter Gabriel does exactly this in his upcoming album titled Scratch My Back. Peter Gabriel is a Grammy award winning artist that has sold millions of records according to Billboard Charts available via their website at Billboards.com. The Itunes Music Store suggested that I pre order his upcoming CD but I decided to listen to the CD via Youtube to see how good it actually is.

This album includes 12 tracks in total and the length is about 55 minutes in total from start to finish. The concept of this album is that Peter has covered some of the best tracks by some of the best artists ever. In exchange each of these artists will cover a track by Peter Gabriel. These artists include David Bowie, Paul Simon, Talking Heads, Lou Reed, Randy Newman, Radiohead, Regina Spektor and more. What I love about this CD is the album is recorded by in acoustic with some simple strings. The best tracks on the CD are Heroes, The Boy in the Bubble, and The Power of the Heart but all are worth owning. The CD costs $29 on Amazon and Itunes charges $10 for the pre order. I would rate this album 4/5 because it includes some of the best music that I have heard in a very long time.
