Sneak Peak Album Review of She Wolf CD by Shakira

Rich Jones
Latina music is probably the most popular form of music in the industry today, there is no club that you can go to without hearing a large amount of Salsa and Reggaeton music from acts like Daddy Yankee, Pitbull, Don Chezina and Master Joe. When all other genres of music were complaining about not being able to sell records these artists were selling millions of records and selling out concerts in arenas all around the world. I would say this is probably the most popular form of music within the United States today. What this means is that acts like J-Lo, Carlos Santana and Shakira which uses Latin music and blend it with Popular music have become more popular than ever across the world.

I have been a fan of Shakira for some time because she reminds me a lot of singers like J-Lo, Selena and Gloria Estefan because their music all share similar themes and the same Latin beats. Shakira typically sings about love and the pain that comes from a broken heart. This is a theme that all of these extremely popular artist share because it is a universal emotion that everyone can relate to. In the past I purchased and loved the previous two Shakira CDs "Laundry Service" and "Oral Fixation Vol. 2" as did millions of others. Each of these CDs went on to sell millions of copied and there was a reason, it was because the content was unique and original. It was something new and the blend was very refreshing.

This is the reason I pre ordered her new album titled "She Wolf" but I was able to listen to the album before the deluxe version of "She Wolf" hits stores and I was pretty disappointed. She has a track with Lil Wayne and one with Beyonce which is not included on this album. The CD has 12 tracks in total with a running time of just over 58 minutes. The themes here are the same, love and heartbreak and there are some songs that are more like Salsa and are better for party music. However, the themes on the album become repetitive and the only feature on the album is Wyclef Jean (Of The Fugees) who doesn't lend much to the album but a couple short verses. She also has a song with Kid Cudi (who is signed to Kanye West) which is not included here, this album was her worst CD yet for the tracks that it should have included but didn't. I would rate this a 2/5 and I suggest you pass on this release.
