Sneak Peak Album Review of "Special Reserve" by Obie Trice

Rich Jones
The holiday season will soon be here and gone and every present will be opened and forgotten before the end of the year. The trouble with the holiday season is that many record labels rush to put out music so that we are forced to buy it as a gift for either ourselves or someone we love. We intend to give it to them as a gift but because there are so many musical releases people often miss those by their favorite artists and when they do pick up a album that they have not heard before it is very likely that they will be buying a album that will be used as a coaster in the future. The reason for this is that people are tricked into buying a disc by an artist that is filled with horrible material and the listener becomes not interested with the album and so the CD goes to waste.

This has happened to me many times and I will make sure it does not happen to you this holiday season. Only you can determine what gift is worth buying but I can tell you that I have been a fan of underground Hip Hop for over a decade now and I enjoy listening to the albums that would fall in this category of music. For anyone who doesn't know Shady Records was one of the most successful record companies during the last decade. Their artists included Eminem, Dr. Dre, Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, 50 Cent, The Game, and Obie Trice. Together they created music that was done in a aggressive Hip Hip diss record style that ended the career of Ja Rule. However, every empire comes to an end and once Eminem took a break from music Obie Trice was released by Shady Records along with many of their other artists listed above. I have been a fan of Obie for some time and I was able to preview his new album "Special Reserve" by looking it up via Youtube and I was very impressed with the content.

There is no production or beats done by Dr. Dre here and no guest appearances by Eminem or 50 Cent. There are 12 tracks on this album and a guest appearance by Deuce Wonder. The best tracks on the CD are "4 Stories", "Cool Cat" and "I Am". Every song has a good amount of replay value and this makes the CD worth buying. I would rate it a 3,5/5 which means it is worth the investment.
