Sneak Peak Album Review of Standing on the Verge by Funkadelic

Rich Jones
When I was a lot younger I had very exclusive music tastes and I would only listen to Pop music. I later stopped listening to Pop music and decided that I would only listen to Rap music. This was a phase that lasted about five years and then I started listening to Country music and I found that I enjoyed all different forms of music. After watching Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer on HBO talking about Funk music and the feelings that it created. They talked about the happiness that the music gave off and how it was much different than other forms of music. I decided that I would give it a shot and I found it to be a lot like Blues, the subject is always about feelings but Funk is more positive and uplifting. Funk music focuses on the good things in life and enjoying those things. Because of this I have become a big fan of Funk music and some of the best Funk artists in my opinion are Funkadelic. My uncle has been a fan of their music for a very long time and he suggested that I pre order their album titled Standing On The Verge so I decided that I would pre order this album via my local Target. I wanted to listen to the album via Youtube before it arrives in stores to see if it was good enough to buy another copy to give to my uncle.

The CD has 20 tracks and none of them are introductions or skits and this is something that stood out to me. Most CDs have filled with throw away songs but this CD is packed with hit songs. The best songs are Sexy Ways, Can You Get To That and Maggot Brainbut the entire CD is worth listening to and owning. The only thing I did not enjoy is that some of the material is very short and I would have liked each song to be extended. What any fan will enjoy is that all of these songs are a blast to listen to, they manage to lift the mood of the room during each track. This is a CD that I enjoy and I am happy with the material. I think that you will find it makes a great gift and it is well worth the money. I would rate this a 4/5 and I suggest you pick it up for yourself or make it a gift.
