Sneak Peak Album Review of Star and Micey by Star and Micey

Rich Jones
According to their website Star and Micey is a group that is made up of two brothers Geoff Smith and Joshua Cosby. They are musicians that are based in Memphis, TN and their name comes from a chance meeting that Cosby had with a local bum while walking home one night. The bum played a song about his former wife named Micey for Cosby and he later told Cosby that his name was Star. Cosby was inspired and so this because the name of the band that Nick Redmond later joined. I became a fan of this band after I had heard their song Salvation Army Clothes on a local radio station. I became a fan of their mix of soft pop and blues. For this reason I decided to pre order their album titled Star and Micey via my local Best Buy for $9 but I thought I would listen to the CD via Youtube before it arrives in stores to see if it was worth the money.

The album features appearances by artists such as Luther Dickinson, Jody Stephens, and Rick Steff. The album has 10 tracks and is about 30 minutes in length, which is a shame because this band has a lot to offer and I would have liked more songs for the money. However, the lyrics are clever and I enjoy the balance of topics within the album because it creates a light and easygoing mood that I enjoy a lot. The lyrics are basically about going through hard times in life and keeping the perspective of being happy for the good times. What I like about this album is that easy song has a positive and uplifting message and it does not get too depressing like a lot of music today. The best tracks on this CD are So Much Pain, Carly, On Your Own, and Late at Night but these are just the best of an album that has a lot of great material. If you like easy going Pop music then this is an album that you should pick up. I would rate this CD a 4/5 because it is a great CD but it is a bit short on material and this is a major negative to me. I would suggest this CD for anyone who is a fan of Mudcrutch, Steve Winwood, Lizz Wright, or The Black Crowes because you will enjoy this.
