Sneak Peak Album Review of "The State Vs. Radric Davis" CD by Gucci Mane

Rich Jones
I have been a fan of rap music for almost 15 years and I can tell you that in this amount of time a lot has changed. In the early 90s the rap music that was popular was the partying music of Biggie Smalls, Run DMC and Puff Daddy. But as the decade progressed music moved into what is not known as gangster music. Acts that became famous during this time include Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss and 2pac. From here rap became more emotional and acts like Kanye West, Common and Kid Cudi became popular. However, today the most popular form of rap would be southern rap which would include Lil Wayne, Baby and most of the most popular southern rappers Gucci Mane. After some time in jail for previous crimes Gucci Mane was blacklisted by the music industry and many acts did not want to work with him. He had trouble getting anyone to make a guest appearance of his record and this almost caused the end of his career. Instead he kept working on his craft and pushing forward and as he became more popular with the fans he found it easier to get guest appearances on his record. This is something that is obvious on his upcoming CD titled "The State Vs. Radric Davis" which is the second album release by the southern rap superstar.

I was able to listen to this CD through Youtube and as I listened I thought about something called the sophmore curse in music industry which says that every second album is horrible because it can't live up to expectations. I can tell you that this is not the case with this project, it was very good and includes some of the best material Gucci Mane has ever released. The CD includes appearances by Lil Wayne, Cam'ron (of Dipset), E-40, Plies, Soulja Boy, Rick Ross, Usher, Nicky Minaj (of Young Money), Tina, Keyshia Cole and OJ Da Juice Man. The CD includes 20 tracks in total and the standout tracks are "Wasted" remix, "Stupid Wild" and Gingerbread Man" but there is plenty to listen to on this CD. If you love southern rap music this is a project you should pick up, it is fill with Hip Hop stars in guest appearance roles and offers a lot of replay value. This is a solid 4/5 and a must have when it arrives in stores.
