Sneak Peak Album Review of Streetlights by Kurupt

Rich Jones
Almost anyone that has ever listened to any music knows who Snoop Dogg is because he is one of the most popular artists in the world. He has been a star in Rap music since 1993 and at that time he was part of Death Row Records along with 2pac. He was also a member of Tha Dogg Pound along with Daz Dillinger and Kurupt. Their album was titled Dogg Food and it was an immediate success for Death Row Records and all of the group members. According to Billboard charts available via their website at billboard.com, Dogg Food sold 2 million copies and debuted at the top of the Billboard charts. Ever since I heard this album in 1993 I have been a fan of both Snoop Dogg and Kurupt. I enjoyed their album That Was Then, This Is Now that was released in 2009 but I found it to be different than previous material. It seemed to me like Kurupt lost his lyrical ability and his songs were just not as hardcore as the older material. I decided to pre order the upcoming release by Kurupt titled Streetlights because I have been a fan for so long. I thought I would listen to the CD via YouTube before it arrives in stores to see how good the CD actually is.

Streetlights is a CD that includes 14 tracks in total and the total length is 51 minutes from start to finish. If you love this type of gangster Rap then you will enjoy this CD because it features a lot of artists. These include Uncle Chucc, Terrace Martin, Virgina Slim, Snoop Dogg, Tone, Dj Drama and DJ Quick. These are artists that will give the CD the same musical flavor as Kurupt had in 1993. However, the problem with this CD is that it includes features on every track and this leaves little space for lyrics that actually have content. Snoop Dogg uses lyrics that are just not realistic at this point in his music. He claims to be a gangster despite his age and it doesn't go over well here. Still though, if you are a fan of Kurupt you will enjoy this CD because it is essentially the same as Dogg Food. There is very little lyrical content on this CD and it has little replay value. However, the beats are great and the production couldn't be better so I rate this 3/5.
